Summary

Lorenzo was a quiet Michigan town, known for its beautiful lake and resorts. Summer has arrived and water activities are abundant. It was one of the reasons Officer Royce Dashnaw took the job in the small town. Being a single dad, he wanted to live a quiet life where his daughter could enjoy the beauty of nature.

Unfortunately, nature also has a dark side.

The peaceful serenity of Lorenzo has been disrupted by a series of strange events. A woman flees from the water with strange bites on her legs; bodies are found in the shallows, stripped to the bone; and the local population of fish have mysteriously disappeared.

As the body count rises, Royce learns the truth. Genetically enhanced fish have been dumped into the lake. With scissor-like jaws, they can reduce a full-grown adult to a mere skeleton in under a minute. A race against time ensues as Royce and his partner struggle to evacuate the very large and busy lake before too many fall victim to the shredders.

Good listen

We all know what Mr Cole brings to the table with creature books, entertainment!! Witha gory edge. Narrator done an excellent job as usual and the story was easy to follow. I use these books for escapism and it was perfect for that!!

Brilliantly Horrific

I wasn't expecting much but boy am I glad I gave this a chance. On a par with Jaws, this is a great monster horror. Does get gruesome in places, fair warning!
Narrator is one of my new favs now. Will no doubt listen to this one over and over.

Brill

I thought it was a brilliant listen, I like the genetic engineering category and for me it ticks all boxes.

Unashamed rip-off ("Piranha" and "Jaws")

Unashamed ripp-off of all the "Piranha" movies - which were themselves rip-offs of Spielberg's "Jaws". Apparently, nobody sued the author or the publishing house, though. That's truly surprising as the book is very very close to the script of both the 1970s "Piranha" movie and the original, "Jaws". Basically, the book is an exact copy of those two movie scripts combined. It is well written, therefore two stars overall. But if this isn't plagiarism ... then I don't know what is.

Who knows, maybe this book was meant as a hommage to Piranha and Jaws. Both movies are mentioned in the book, but there was really no way around that. Still, it's surprising to see with how much plagiarism an author can get away with. The only explanation I can come up with, is that there have been so many rip-offs before this one (most of them movies) that whoever owns the rights to "Piranha" and to "Jaws", simply gave up on suing.

Performance by Benjamin Williams: perfect!

Right wing power fantasy

I really wanted to enjoy this, and there were elements of a good creature feature here, but the author clearly has a weird hatred for environmentalists I couldn't get past. I get having different opinions and all but it seems that he took every chance to childishly belittle the "environmentalists" (not that they were advocating for anything environment related in this story really). Even stooping to just calling them stupid and weak. This author really needs to talk to some real environmental activists, and read up on why they feel passionately about the planet. As a 6ft1 100kg weight lifting ecologist, I can personally tell you we're not all vegan bean poles.
