Summary

Bath's top detective, Peter Diamond, doesn't believe in jinxes. So when he's asked to investigate a top TV show plagued by a series of misfortunes, Diamond is unmoved. He's no fan of the show—which glorifies criminals and mocks the police—and the incidents were spread across six years. It's clear this is the press making a sensation out of nothing. So Diamond puts the junior member of his squad on the case.

But when young officer Paul Gilbert goes on location with the TV unit and witnesses another near-death incident, Diamond is forced to take an interest. To make matters worse, the press get wind of his involvement and Diamond his under pressure from all quarters. But his troubles have scarcely started. Devastating traps and surprises make this the most baffling case of his entire career.

Very enjoyable

Once again, an excellent book, well read and a clever story. I have read almost all of the series. Being set in and around Bath adds to the stories, much better than books with made up villages and towns. I recommend reading from book one, though, as the stories of the characters carry on through the series.

Slow

I found the story very slow and found it difficult to maintain concentration on it.

Interesting introduction to the series.

This is the first book in the series I've listened to. I'll look for more in the series.

Another Diamond.

Love all the Peter Diamond books. This one is no exception, Peter Lovesey's depiction of Bath always makes me want to visit again.

dated

The story was very drwn out. The narration was slow and drawn out and the perpitrator obvious from the get go.
Peter Wickham did this book no favours, I kept drifting off ... even whilst weeding... I think it may have been better with a better narrator but as soon as the perso "what done it" was interviewed I thought.. yep that the one.. and I wasn't tempted by anyone else, no red herrings.. so I was disappointed.

Wonderful

Love the Diamond books. Lots of twists and turns, and always very human and thoughtful. Doesn’t try to be too clever - just tells a great story that holds ur attention.
Well narrated, too…
