Summary

Only in the darkness can vengeance thrive

It's been a month since Kayla, a headstrong ruin rat, and Carl, an OmniLab trader, returned to the surface. After she helped to restore control of the towers to those who would look after the best interests of the people, she'd found herself irrevocably bonded to Alec, the new co-leader of the High Council.

Although her heart belongs to Carl, she finds it difficult to resist the strange bond between her and Alec. Caught between learning how to handle her new emerging abilities, mysterious earthquakes, and a strange group seemingly intent on targeting OmniLab, Kayla is once again swept up in events that threaten to change the entire future of the towers.

Even better than book1!

Gripping, well written with well drawn characters. Excellent voice performance, and I say all this after listening to 220 audio books! One of the best. Highly recommended.

Shadow of the Coalition

I found book 1 a bit slow to start. That is not the case with book 2. It's fast and action-packed some nice steam, but the story has me completely hooked. I am really looking forward to continuing this series.

My Thoughts on Shadow of the Coalition

This was a good second installment in this series. I appreciated the emotion and relationship development in the book. I also liked the nuance and layers of the bad guys, even if I obviously didn’t like all of the horrible things that they did. I continued to really like the leading lady Kayla, even as she continues to have moments of reckless choices, but she was ruled by her heart, and didn’t always let her high level of intelligence come in to play until after she had gotten herself into trouble. The book wouldn’t have been nearly as entertaining, if she had done things differently though. Overall, I was satisfied with the ending of the story and where they left things and I’m excited to continue with the series. I was also just as happy with the narrator’s performance in this book as I was in the previous one. While she didn’t have an amazing range for the multitude of characters there are in the story, I do feel like she did a pretty good job with their being so very many characters for just one person. Plus, she did a great job in my opinion with the accent of one of the new characters. So many narrators can’t pull off an accent and we are just told that a character has an accent but can’t actually hear it. That wasn’t the case with this narrator or this story.
