Summary

Distraction (n): Something that turns your attention away from something you want to concentrate on. See: Teddy Prescott.

Ruthie Midona is 24 (going on 94) and fully committed to her job at a luxury retirement village. Keeping herself busy caring for the eccentric residents means that Ruthie can safely ignore her own life - what little there is of it.

Teddy Prescott is practically allergic to a hard day's work. When he rocks up as the retirement village's newest employee, Ruthie is less than impressed. The last thing she needs is a distraction as irritating (and handsome) as this selfish rich kid. Lucky for Ruthie, her favourite pair of mischievous residents need a new assistant to torture...so she hands over Teddy, ready for them to send him running.

Except Teddy may be about to surprise her - not just by surviving the old women's antics, but by charming Ruthie so much, she starts to remember that there's more to life than work.... Could Teddy be far more than simply an unwelcome distraction?

Critic reviews

"I inhaled Second First Impressions - I had to force myself to slow down because I didn't want it to end. It's a truly adorable, heart-warming, swoon-worthy love story. A book hasn't given me the warm-fuzzies like this for a very long time." (Beth O'Leary, best-selling author of The Flatshare)

"Read this the right way (in one day), and miss it so badly all ready. Like being inside Sally Thorne's cute, cozy, whimsically wall-papered.... No one writes like Sally.... Just. So. Sweet." (Emily Henry, New York Times best-selling author)

Slow start but I loved it

I miss the characters now that I’ve finished, which I think is always a sign of a good book. I enjoy Saly Thornes style.

Sweet romance with well developed characters

At first the relationship between the two leads seems very stereotypical good girl and bad boy, and I might have lost faith in the book but a love for the author’s pervious books made me stick with it and I’m very glad I did. Beyond these characters have a lot of heart and are well rounded with a lot of depth, and it’s the characters develop a lot outside of the romance elements of the book. A slightly generic start but i highly recommend sticking with it. Also includes a bit of lesbian representation in the side characters which I really enjoyed.

Sally Thorne does it again! Amazing

I loved this book! This is the second novel I’ve picked up by Sally Thorne and she hasn’t disappointed. This is a very fast listen, I was hooked and finished listening within two days! I couldn’t put it down, it’s fair to say none of my errands got done. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I got some second hand embarrassment from Ruthie but it added to the quirk of the book. It’s very rare I actually laugh out loud but this book made me and I was constantly smiling. If you’re looking for a cute, quirky romance and quick listen, this is the novel for you!

The last 30 mins were the best of a bad book

I loved the Hating Game and was excited to read another book by this author, but it’s just a massive flop, the hero and heroine are not particular likeable, their love story isn’t believable and it only became interesting for the last 30 mins or so. Such a shame.

Boring and predictable

This book was quite boring and predictable. The storyline was cheesy and it felt like the mail character childishly naive. I hope the book would at least be funny but unfortunately it made me smile only a couple of times.
