About this listen

Of all the Legiones Astartes, the White Scars of Jaghatai Khan remain the most enigmatic and elusive. Born of a civilisation that prizes honour, speed and fearsome loyalty, their allegiance has yet remained unclear even as the galaxy is torn apart by Horus' treachery, and both sides have apparently counted them among their potential allies in the war to come.

But when the Alpha Legion launch an unexplained and simultaneous attack against the White Scars and Space Wolves, the Khan must decide once and for all whether he will stand with the Emperor or the Warmaster...or neither.

What a performance by the reader. Amazing

Zero dislikes at all. While the story is complex in parts the narrator does a stellar job!

Refreshing!

The White Scars perspective was a refreshingly different point of view. Loved the turmoil within the legion

Do not skip - Essential and gripping White Scars and Primarch lore

I actually skipped this one but went back to it after a few books - and thank god I did. This is a really good addition to the HH series, and probably in my top five. First proper close up look at the WS, and fills in a nice gap. I blasted through it very quickly. Some awesome primarch content here, and the perspective of everything unfolding from the WS pov - and doesn’t labour on old ground too much either, but paces it really well. A nice mortal character in it as well. As with all the HH books it has an excellent and rewarding climax.

Only thing I’d criticise sometimes is the production, how it skips too quickly into another plot line and you need a moment to understand that it’s changed to another characters story. I wish they’d take a bit more of a breath before doing that. However, not a major issue.

White Scars finally join the fray

Great insights into one of my favourite chapters. Brilliant narration as well. One of the better titles in the series.

Made me a White Scars fan.

First off, the voice work in this was the best of the HH books I’ve listened to so far: clear narration, good dramatic sense and distinct character voices which adds to the depth of interactions. Awesome.

That aside, the story is really engaging. A good mix of action, intrigue and background and not too many characters so it’s easier to get invested in people.

The best bit though was the White Scars themselves. The book really delved into the character of the Legion in terms of it’s background and beliefs and how the Terran Scars never quite fully get into the legion. The Khan himself is really well fleshed out and it’s easy to like him. Not just for his badassery but also his moments of clear thinking, deduction and wit.

Couldn’t recommend it enough. It made me a White Scars fan.

Strong entry, stronger narration

Wright delivers a relatively fresh entry into the Horus Heresy saga, with some nuance and some really nice moments to it: memories of Ullanor, the pre-ascension trials. Miyakita however is what makes this so great. His voice is beautiful and sonorous: crystal clear. His pacing is superb, and his characterisation is rich. The story suffers a little from some of the racial stereotyping typical of Games Workshop ("inscrutable" is a word that gets used...) but this nonetheless is worth a listen, adding much-needed depth to the White Scars legion, who are otherwise handled poorly. Great narration!

brilliant story

the story is captivating and in-depth with great time taken to explore the culture of the white scars and their origins. I think the reviews siting the voice actors accent to be harsh. it is impossible to portray the white scars properly without the Mongolian influence and they only have a select few voice actors at Black Library (or their in house/selected voice actor pool). also it's a fictional group 30,000 years in the futurem who knows how they'd sound lol. excellent listen (this is my third listen and in a few months I'm sure I'll be back for more!)

Brilliant

Loved the narration. The involvement of various different Space Marine legions was great. Combination of stoic pace mixed with excitement and basic heresy politics. Really enjoyed.
