Summary

The action-packed new thriller from Sunday Times best seller Matthew Reilly. This time the world's on fire!

At an abandoned Soviet base in the Arctic, a battle to save all life on Earth is about to begin....

When Dragon Island, a top-secret base that houses a weapon of terrible destructive force, is seized by a brutal terrorist force calling itself the Army of Thieves, the fate of the world suddenly hangs in the balance. But there are no crack units close enough to get to Dragon in time to stop the army setting off the weapon.

Except, that is, for a small equipment-testing team up in the Arctic led by a marine captain named Schofield, call sign Scarecrow.

Scarecrow is back!

I remeber picking up Ice station years ago, not knowing anything about the author. I was hooked instantly. Never before had I read such an action novel, with the pace of the story growing more intense on every page. In my mind, no book will ever come close to Ice station, regarding fast, thrilling action.
Army of thieves was a little more down to earth (if such an expression can be used for any book starring Scarecrow) and the story was enjoyable, actionpacked and just what I was hoping for. But my regret is listening to the audiobook instead of actually reading the book. When reading Ice station, i remember reading at an increased pace when there was an abundance of action, turning pages like there was no tomorrow, feeling as I was a part of that action myself. Here, Sean Mangan - although he does a great job and I enjoyed listening to his voice - carries on at the same pace throughout the audiobook, no matter how intense the action.
Of course this is understandable, had he shouted and read really fast as I did when reading Ice station, it would probably have been really awkward and horrible.
But then again, maybe that is just what this audiobook would have needed...

Love Scarecrow

Used to live in Sydney and first started reading Matthew Reilly books in paperback there as saw one of them at the Guild where I did book binding. Now in london and just seen that some are on audio which is perfect for the mad rush on public transport doing sardine impersonations on a train (no room to hold a book) but can listen....

Another fantastic story from Matthew Reilly, I can't wait for a new book to dig my teeth into. The book is once again excellently narrated by Sean Mangan

I am a huge fan of the Scarecrow stories. It kept me gripped all the way through. A few surprises here and there.
If you like the other books you won't go wrong with this one.
