About this listen

From New York Times bestselling author Tessa Bailey comes a steamy novella full of hope and humor tracking a couple’s fake marriage for a year after the wild New Year’s Eve when they first say “I do.”

Adored by all, Britta is an ambitious waitress working at Sluggers. The popular bar holds a special place in her heart and is a regular hangout for the Bridgeport Bandits, the local hockey club. With a half brother on the team, Britta has a strict no-dating policy for hockey boys. But she does have a soft spot for one particular player.

A beast on the ice, Sumner Mayfield is on the brink of breaking into the NHL. But time’s running out. With his work visa about to expire, Sumner’s only chance to stay in Bridgeport is to marry an American—and get a green card. Otherwise, it’s back to Canada for the defenseman.

On New Year’s Eve, the team begs Britta to marry Sumner that very night. Sum is embarrassed yet hopeful—he’s desperately in love. But Britta balks at first. Until something about Sumner’s soulful brown eyes and ripped physique makes her reconsider…

This had such a heart warming and wonderful storyline. It really was the perfect happy read.

Heart warming novella to make you believe we all deserve love.

This is a short story and is told from Britta and Sumner's POV's every few months of their 'fake' relationship.

I found their story interesting as it was the guy who was smitten from the beginning, patiently watching Britta from a distance. I loved his little pep talks when he thought he'd pushed her too far. He was so in love with her, he was a gentle giant.

Britta had some issues from her parents' divorce and it was holding her back from pursuing her own relationships. I loved how we got to watch her grow and work through a lot of her hang-ups.

These two were perfect for each other and although we don't see a lot of them hanging out together, I felt they belonged together.

Great voice actorss, told in duel narration

so far I have enjoyed every single book I've had from this author. But this one not so much. I enjoyed the drawn out anticipation but found the male narrator just too over the top, nearly cringey and I couldn't get past it. The overall storyline was good but felt rushed in places.

This was not my cup of tea. The narration was really good, but the characters and plot (or lack thereof) were not to my liking.
Here's what you can expect from this book:

- fake dating/marriage
- lust & super horny behavior
- one track mind.... only thoughts: SEX
- guy falls first
- Greencard fraud (not very realistic)
- good narration, dual POV first person
- detailed sexual descriptions all from his point of view

Not my cup of tea
