Summary
The Ghosts of the Tanith First-and-Only have been away from the front line for too long. Listless and hungry for action, they are offered a mission that perfectly suits their talents.
The objective: the mysterious Salvation's Reach, a remote and impenetrable stronghold concealing secrets that could change the course of the Sabbat Worlds campaign. But the proposed raid is so hazardous, it's regarded as a suicide mission, and the Ghosts may have been in reserve for so long they've lost their edge. Haunted by spectres from the past and stalked by the Archenemy, Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and his Ghosts embark upon what could be their finest hour...or their final mission.

Change of narrator, changes everything.
I just couldn't get the same feel of the book or the story without Toby Longworth. It shows me that audible books, the narrator is a huge part of the enjoyment, and success. Hopefully Mr Longworth will reappear with Gaunts Ghosts again soon.

Great Story as Always
No disrespect to voice actor but if they had only continued with the original one, Toby Longworth?!
It's an okay performance at best, and very jarring to change the voice you've been listening to for the last 10 books!

Dan Abnett delivers as always
A great story as always. The narrator did a great job with the various accents for the characters. However I did find it a struggle to begin with, being used to Toby’s usual character voices made it a little difficult to gel with at first.

Another great story - but voices feel wrong.
The narration isnt bad! Just vastly different from the Toby weve all progressed with. James seems like hed be a great narration for something more light hearted, and i fully intend to see some of his other works. But i had to stop on this one alas.
Change in voice. How names are pronounced and general vibe change unsettled this old listener.
I think it best explained as:
Imagine if they subbed out Ironman for one movie and instead of RDJ you got a random young person. Youd not hate it, but would seem odd as hell :)

New narator but a good one
Must say i had to get used to a new narrator after Toby and I’m still not sould on the new Larkin voice but the many new characters for very well and the portrayal of blenner is perfect !

excellent addition to the series
like it or not, there will always be a struggle when a narrator is changed in a series of audiobooks, while not a downgrade in terms of ability. it was difficult at first to reconcile between the way characters were voiced in this installment and the way they were voiced previously

better narration required
Not a fan of this narrator but the story is excellent. Irritating new pronunciations of some of the prominent characters

Great story, terrible narration
Not the narrators fault. An error to change the narrator late in the series. Gaunts ghotsts are my favourite novel series I will defend it to anyone. But the way the characters were portrayed was so jarring to me that I found myself desperately waiting for it to be over. Gaunt Larkin and Zweil especially they sounded cartoonish. A sad thing to have a first low point while reading these books. The story was good. Perhaps a little slow at the start to build tension. There were certain strange moments that seemed as if Dan Abnet had got someone else to write certain parts. It felt more light hearted and whimsical than his usual writing style. But that could also be down to the narration.
