About this listen
Running for My Life is not a story about Africa or track and field athletics. It is about outrunning the devil and achieving the impossible: faith, diligence, and the desire to give back. It is the American dream come true and a stark reminder that saving one can help to save thousands more.
Lopez Lomong chronicles his inspiring ascent from a barefoot lost boy of the Sudanese Civil War to a Nike sponsored athlete on the US Olympic Team. Though most of us fall somewhere between the catastrophic lows and dizzying highs of Lomong's incredible life, every reader will find in his story the human spark to pursue dreams that might seem unthinkable, even from circumstances that might appear hopeless.

The story obviously starts on a dark note with the backdrop of civil war but it progresses into a tale of overcoming odds and fulfilling dreams. Life doesn't always turn out that way and not everyone has Lopez's abilities. Nonetheless, Lopez's attitude and trust during the hard times are something we can all learn from. For people in the UK, perspective can be put on Lopez's achievements by remembering that he ran in the same Olympic final in 2012 as Mo Farah.

A great book on his tough upbringing which I feel will change the perspective of your life. A lot of us around the world think we have a hard life when in actual fact we don’t.
I feel Lopez’s story will open up the readers eyes to what things are like in other parts of the world and be grateful for the life they have coming from western society.
Incredibly moving book.
