Sørine vokser op i et lille jysk sogn i mellemkrigstiden som datter af en enlig mor. Hun er ikke som de andre, og livet er langt fra en dans på roser for den unge pige. Trods modstand lykkes det hende at uddanne sig og sent i livet også at finde kærligheden. Den danske forfatter Krista Louise Jørgensen (f. 1928) er oprindeligt uddannet barneplejerske (vores dages pædagog). Hun debuterede i 1982 med digtsamlingen "Et barn til låns" og har siden skrevet både romaner, digte og erindringsbøger. Desuden har hun forfattet bogen "Hovedet i nakken", der skildrer et sygdoms- og behandlingsforløb set indefra.
