About this listen

One of Rufus’ duties, as warden of the farmstead, was to indoctrinate newcomers when they arrived. Usually, this was little more than a clerical process, except for the horse. But that was due to the horse’s belligerence and foul temper. Now, however, there was a very different challenge. The two newly-arrived steers seemed to be … distracted, maybe even dim-witted. Oh, Rufus was quite accustomed to dim-wittery, thanks to the dog, but these two would suddenly break into song, or dance, or recite poetry, that is, when they were not fighting with each other! Yes, this was something quite new indeed.

This book is the sixth in a series of ten fables aimed at inspiring young minds and encouraging thoughtful discussion. Each book contains a student worksheet with ten vocabulary words (selected from the story) and five thought-provoking questions suitable for teacher-guided discussions. A Teacher’s Guide book for this series is available and highly recommended.
