Rifleman Harris was a soldier in the elite 95th Rifles, one of Britains most prestigous infantry units during the Napoleonic wars. In this memoir, Harris relates his experiences in Denmark, the Peninsular, and at Walcheren.

This is no history of grand plans and movements controlled by the lofty generals. Rather this relates the tale of a front line soldier who's concerns run much more with keeping shoes on his feet, a shirt on his back and, most, importantly food in his belly.

Among other details, this book relates the horrors of the retreat to Corruna and the even more disasterous Walcheren expedition where an entire army was struck down by pestilence.

This first hand account of the life of British. Soldier in the 95th Rifles in the Napoleonic wars is excellently read. it gives us far greater insight into the life of an ordinary soldier in that campaign than many a biography of the great generals.

A gripping insight into a brutal time, how on earth he managed to survive and live to tell the tale i do not know.

The retreat to Corunna is probably the most fascinating part, the unforgiving marches and little stories about the lives of other men before and after the expeditions make this a uniquely wonderful story.

I do wish the narrator would pronounce the names of the Spanish cities and villages better though.

and a lot of sad truths for your nationalist morons who want to glorify the British empire. muh white people ruled the world. no we never idiots, only a hand few of people gained from these empires and advancements

most white people had it worse than black on plantation. check it up though you won't find that truth on mainstream liar sites like Amazon and google

A Fantastic insight into the life of a Redcoat. Life was not good back then. Well worth the listen. This story tells the reality of being an English Redcoat which movies have lied about for so long.

Why get an Ozzie to read a book by an Englishman? This book is good, but would help stir the imagination if read by a man who hails from Harris's land. Took away from the story somewhat, hence my low performance and higher story.
