About this listen

Popular culture makes you believe that happiness is a switch.

Something happens, and that switch is triggered.

You get a promotion at work, you find God, you find your life partner, you start therapy.

And that’s you sorted.

And I’d like to call bullsh*t.

Juno was born with spina bifida and is now clumsily navigating her 20s amidst street healers, love, loneliness – and the feeling of being an unfinished project.

Written and performed by rising star, Amy Trigg, this remarkable debut play is a hilarious, heart-warming tale about how crap our wonderful lives can be.

Directed by Charlotte Bennett, (co-Artistic Director for Paines Plough). Sound design based on original sound design and composition for the live stage production at the Kiln by Elena Peña.

The live stage performance of Reasons You Should(n't) Love Me was presented at Kiln Theatre, in London, United Kingdom, in 2021 by Kiln Theatre, The Women's Prize for Playwriting, Paines Plough and 45North. The play won First Prize in the inaugural Women's Prize for Playwriting in 2020.

Portions of this audio drama contain mature language and themes. Listener discretion is advised.

Amy Trigg is hugely talented- her performance elevates an already brilliant monologue to one of the best things I’ve ever heard on Audible (or anywhere, for that matter). I see she’s working with Netflix, and I can’t wait to see/hear more of her!

Joyous and exquisite

at times I nearly turned it of as it reminded me of events and feelings I would like to pretend are not apart of life. as Christian I understand what ment but junior must be much stronger than me as I could get thru this without my faith. it was brilliant and I so glad I didn't turn it off when certain parts reminded me of very hurtful times 💔 but an fantastic audio book xxxx Kylie.

so factual from one disabled women to another.

Fantastic listen, a truly brilliant performance with relatable content that both moves you and has you crying with laughter at the same time. It's a must listen! Superlative writing.

Inspiring, brave, honest, capturing and comical.

As another of the rare sick kids who actually managed (contrary to all medical opinion or expectations) to grow up, this was like reading my own diary.

Like reading back my own diary

everything you could want from a short story every emotion touched time went so fast

not really my usual listening but glad I did

While I found the story very relatable, what with me having been born with spina bífida, the delivery and voice of the author irritated me no end. Had it not been as short as it is, I would’ve stopped at minute 10.

A different narrator might’ve done the trick
