Summary

All Timberlyn wants is to get out of her small town, where she's branded a freak just because she happens to wear all black and draw gruesome monsters in her notebooks.

When a letter arrives saying she's been accepted to the mysterious Ravenwood Academy for the exceptionally Gifted, she jumps at the chance. Never mind that she's not sure what she's supposedly gifted at, or the fact that she doesn't remember actually applying there.

When she arrives, the school seems like a dream full of beautiful people ready to befriend her. There's only one problem with Ravenwood: it's run by Alarick Wolf and his brothers, three surly, thuggish, insanely gorgeous guys. Timberlyn's new friends give strict instructions to stay far away from them.

Unfortunately, she's not good at taking orders.

When girls at the school begin disappearing, Timberlyn refuses to maintain the status quo. She's sure Alarick and the Wolf boys are up to something, and if she has to, she'll take them down herself.

That is, if they don't take her down first.

This is a slow burn romance series appropriate for 14+ due to language. Though there are several guys in Timberlyn's life, this is not Reverse Harem.

Cliffhanger warning.

Thrilling YA academy romance!

I absolutely loved this academy romance, its non-stop action, plenty of plot twists, and a slow burn romance that kept me enthralled from beginning to end. The heroine Tymberlan (I love that name!), is a social outcast with a gift who enrolls at Ravenwood Academy for a fresh start, not long after starting there, girls start disappearing, Tymberlan's drawn to the mystery and soon realise not everything is as it seems. This book grabs your attention and doesn't let go and promises to be a fantastic addictive series, Vanessa Mayen's narration helps bring this book to life.

3 1/2 ⭐️

I received a free audio copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review.

To start with just have to put out there this ends with one hell of a cliffhanger. You’ll be screaming at the book if you don’t have the second one. I know as I don’t. 😂 There’s bits of this book like the suspense and mystery I really love in this book the Wolf boys and Timberlyns personalities although not as fleshed out as I like are constant and growing so hopefully in the next book that will continue. There do however seem to be things a little lost or maybe they’ll just come up in later books (I hope!) like Lindy from the first couple of characters which is a real bug bare of mine.
This narrator has to be one of my favourites she is s perfect fit for all YA or dystopian fantasy I swear.

be careful what you wish for

Year One: Wolf Moon was a great book. Timberlyn wants out of the town because she fill like she does not fit in. people don't like her because she wears all black and draws gruesome monsters throughout her notebooks. The three Wolf brothers make it know she is not welcome. Timberlyn does not listen to warnings and she ends up with more than she bargains for. Lena Mae Hill is a great strory teller and I can't wait for next book since I was hooked by cliffhanger

This story has so much potential

For me, the story started off strong and I thought I would love it. The dream aspect was interesting and overall this type of story (paranormal/academy) is right up my alley. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoyed the story but I found myself becoming frustrated with the MC and the lack of connection I felt between the characters.

All the above said, I will be checking out the next book in the series. This story has so much potential. I'm interested to learn why the MC has these seemingly prophetic dreams, what they could mean and obviously find out what happens after that cliffhanger.

The narrator is one of my favourites. She always does such a fantastic job voicing multiple characters, even males, that you'll never be confused with who's speaking.

WOW Ravenwood Academy!!!

This is a fantastic book. I was not ready for that conclusion. This book leaves with wanting so much more with a cliffhanger from down under. If you love werewolves and academy books I highly recommend this book. Vanessa Moyen does an amazing job narrating, as expected. Can't wait for the next installment.

Awesome!

Fabulous story by Lena Mae Hill. Timberlyn is a fantastically independent character that has her own way of doing things. The story flows seamlessly together but ends on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to hear the next book. Love Vanessa Moyen and her amazing performance! 💕

Good introduction

“That’s where they hide. In the woods. That’s Ravenwood Forest. The town of Ravenwood is just over the mountain. That’s where your school is.” - Gramma

Timberlyn has always been somewhat of an outcast at her school and bullied for being different. Her drawings of the monsters that have plagued her dreams since childhood are a particular source of ridicule. When a letter arrives stating that she has been accepted at the mysterious Ravenwood Academy for the Exceptionally Gifted, she jumps at the chance for a fresh start, despite the fact that she doesn’t remember ever applying there.

On the day of enrolment, Timberlyn is disconcerted when she runs into a hostile boy at the main gate who warns her to leave. Surprised by his animosity, Timberlyn refuses to let him intimidate her. Her roommate Delilah does little to dispel her doubts and rebuffs her attempts at friendship. Luckily Timberlyn finds a friend in Svana and her brother Viktor.

Timberlyn comes to realise that the Academy is run by the Wolf brothers, three surly, thuggish and insanely gorgeous guys. Timberlyn recognises their leader, Alarick, as the antagonistic boy who told her to leave on her first day. Despite their enmity towards her as well as her friends warning her to stay away from them, Timberlyn can’t help feeling drawn to them:

"I didn’t know why I couldn’t stop provoking them. I knew I was poking a beast, but I couldn’t contain my curiosity about them. I had to know. More than that, I couldn’t stand them having so much power, thinking they ran the world. If I couldn’t unseat them from their thrones, maybe I could at least unsettle them. I could be the earthquake that shook the ground their thrones sat on, make them sweat a little."

Unbeknownst to Timberlyn however, Ravenwood Academy is hiding a dark secret and when two girls go missing, she is determined to uncover the truth. Her investigation leads to a terrifying discovery in the forest surrounding the academy that Timberlyn recognises from her dreams.

“What?” I said. It was a moment before I saw what she saw, the thing I felt. My heart stopped. A dark formless black swirled in front of us, and inside it glowed a pair of white eyes without pupils. My dream. I knew it was the thing from my nightmare..

Just what is the dark formless smoke hiding in the shadows of the forest? Timberlyn’s determination to uncover the truth will come at a terrible price...

Wolf Moon is the first instalment of the Ravenwood Academy series and was my first introduction to the author. The book introduces fifteen year old Timberlyn who is plagued by nightmares as well as vivid dreams of people before she has met them. Bullied by her peers at school in Arkansas, she jumps at the chance to start a new life when she’s given a placement at Ravenwood Academy in Canada. Unfortunately the Academy is not what it seems and when two girls go missing, Timberlyn discovers that they are not the only students to have gone missing over the years. Determined to uncover the veil of secrecy surrounding the Academy as well as the Wolf brothers, Timberlyn soon finds herself out of her depth.

Timberlyn is a resilient, tenacious, snarky and defiant protagonist. The Wolf brothers, who consist of Alarick, Adolf and Donavan, were intriguing and I look forward to exploring their backgrounds in further detail. At times I felt that the book might have benefited from including Alarick’s point of view.

The secondary characters were interesting. It was apparent throughout that Delilah, Svana and Viktor were keeping secrets from Timberlyn but their reasons are a mystery. Gramma was a particularly interesting character and I suspect she is not as absent minded as she makes out.

All in all, the book was fast paced with lots of twists and turns to keep the reader engrossed. The author has deftly managed to introduce the main characters and lay the foundation for what looks to be a promising series. I look forward to learning more about the Wolf brothers and exploring Timberlyn’s unknown ‘gift’ as well as the mysterious presence in the forest.

I received an advanced free audible copy of Wolf Moon which was narrated by Vanessa Moyen. Her clear, concise delivery made it easy to differentiate between characters.

Brilliant start to the series.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Because Timberlin wears black and draws monsters the others in her school have marked her as a weirdo and bully her whenever they get the chance. She gets a letter saying she has been accepted to Ravenwood Academy when she arrives she is told the school is run by 4 brothers and they call the shots however Timberlin is not one for towing the line and she is defiant towards them from the start. When girls start to disappear she’s told to do nothing but being who she is she ignores and searches for answers.
I really enjoyed listening and I am looking forward to book 2 , Vanessa Moyen is a fabulous narrator and made it even more enjoyable to listen too.

Lost for words

This is absolutely fantastic, the characters were enjoyable and well portrayed. The hints that the author dropped about the Wolf brothers were intriguing and left me wanting more. Definitely a fantastic author
