I enjoyed the stories although shocked at the overt racism of the time in which they were written. The most irritating thing was that the stories were presented without any gap between the end of one and beginning of the next. This would prevent me buying a book from this publisher again.

W S Maugham has a wonderful way of putting words into sentences that bring the characters home to the listener, and descriptions that paint perfect pictures in one’s mind. Couldn’t ask for more in an audiobook.

Love Maugham. Whyever is there not more of him available on Audible? A master storyteller. So much of history and his era and milieu reflected in his writings. Come on Audible, pull your socks up. Get with it. Listeners want quality and good writing with excellent narrators.

These short stories are all quintessentially WSM and perfect examples of the beauty of the language. Each of the endings were in some respects unexpected. The narration too was superb.
