About this listen

It is 1940 and Britain is fighting alone against the Germans. With the RAF fighting above the skies of England, it is down to the Commandos to go back to France and cause as much trouble to the Germans as possible. When the Italians join in alongside the Germans, it seems that Britain is about to sink beneath a sea of Fascists. A fast-moving novel which follows one section of Commandos as they fight in France and North Africa.

WWII

In anticipation of "Raider", Book II of a WW II series; I re-listened to Commando several weeks ago. It took a little while to listen to a different Narrator; but it only took a few minutes to readjust and I was fully caught up in the story. Tom Harsker, our hero who dropped out off Officer Training Program in Book 1; starts off Book 2 as a Corporal. As he leads men out of very difficult operations (including his officers); you wonder why he is not promoted? However, after various page turning actions in France; he is made into a Sergeant. Because he and his section are the best; they are the team selected for a special mission to rescue a general in Africa. I really enjoyed this novel and can hardly wait until Book III is available in Audio. I highly recommend that that one should listen to Book I first.

Quote “they were green Howard’s”. Then narration is in a London accent! General narration is by someone sounding very old with a slight lisp. Very off putting. Calling the military medal a military cross when awarded to an other rank is one of many errors. Hosker is usually good on research so k don’t know what’s gone wrong here. Anyway. I’m not going further in this series.
