Helmuth M. Backhaus (1920-1989) war ein deutscher Schriftsteller, Drehbuchautor, Rundfunksprecher und Filmregisseur. Aufgewachsen in München, studierte er nach der Schule einige Semester Jura, sowie Theaterwissenschaft in Frankfurt am Main. Anschließend wurde er beim Bayerischen Rundfunk als Sprecher ausgebildet und begann 1946 mit kabarettistischen Sendungen. Backhaus verfasste Sketche, Hörspiele, Features und Dokumentarsendungen, in denen er oft selbst Regie führte. Darüber hinaus schrieb er Gedichte, Theaterstücke und Sachbücher. Bekannt wurde er durch Unterhaltungsfilme wie "Im weißen Rössl" (1960).
