About this listen
How do you find yourself after you lose the one you loved the most?
Lenny has been a bit of a mess since her best friend, Lou, passed away. She's avoiding her concerned parents, her apartment and the list of things she's supposed to do to enjoy life again. The only thing she can handle right now is babysitting a precocious seven-year-old, Ainsley. And if Lenny acts like she's fine, maybe no one will notice she's falling apart. The only issue: Ainsley's uncle, Miles, is always there and is kind of . . . a huge jerk.
But Miles sees right through her. He knows a lot about grief and offers her a deal: he'll help her complete her "live again" list if she'll help him re-connect with Ainsley and his sister. Lenny doubts anything can help, but as she begins to spend more time with Miles, she begins to see that, sometimes, losing everything can be the first step to finding yourself again.
Love the book

This was my first book by/impression of Cara Bastone, and it was immaculate. It is one of the most beautiful and heartfelt books I have ever read. It captures the raw, unfiltered reality of grief—how messy, unpredictable, and all-consuming it can be—while also reminding us that healing is possible, even from the pain we once believed was insurmountable. It is a story about falling in love through the mess of grief and navigating a world in the aftermath of losing an integral part of the person you used to be. I saw 14-year-old me after losing my mum throughout this book, and Lenny's character and the insightful way Cara has written this book is astonishing; I felt everything, and single lines had me teetering on the edge of tears throughout. Miles is everything you could want in a book boyfriend. This man! The understanding, support, and comfort he gives to Lenny is next level, and he consistently shows up for her both in obvious and not-so-obvious ways; he never wavered, and my god, I adored it and him.
This entire book, from start to finish, was incredible and felt like I shared in the healing journey Lenny was on, as her struggles mirror what so many of us go through. It felt an incredibly personal read. The audiobook was fantastic and my first narrated by Alex Finke, who did a phenomenal job portraying every aspect of the emotion Lenny displays. I'm honestly blown away by this book and fear none of the words above could possibly express how this book made me feel or do it justice.
Outstanding!

Grief, self discovery, and finding love in the messiness of it all
Lenny has lost her best friend to cancer and her life has fallen to pieces. Miles is the uncle of the girl Lenny is nanning and offers to help her through her list. Her list to live again, the final gift from her best friend who wanted her to remember how to live without her.
This author handled grief in such a raw and vulnerable manner. With pockets of wisdom and compassion scattered throughout.
This is a not a tear jerker but tear hurler. Certain lines in this just squeeze at your heart because you develop so much love for these characters
Also Miles Honey is now my favourite book boyfriend. He’s always there 110% for Lennie, he’s consistent, reliable and always has her best interests at heart. He’s a wonderful display of how to really show up for someone grieving.
I personally haven’t felt the loss of a loved one thankfully but even if you haven’t experienced grief we’ve all have lost something and this book is healing. It is honest, it is raw, it is relatable. It finds that bandaged over piece of your heart, opens it up and heals it back up. It’s a realistic description of grief that does not flower anything, it’s messy, it’s healing, it’s hope.
I’m now off to read every one of Cara Bastone books
