First off this book is sort of a semi-seqel to the Ixan Phrophecies and has a few characters that may be familiar to anyone who has read them. It is NOT however required that you need to read the trilogy before reading this series.

The story follows a few sets of people who live in a new galaxy far away from the milky way and how they are learning to live in a new system with the aliens that preceded them the challenges of atmosphere and each even other.

The main protagonist, I think, is Jake who dreams of being in the Darkstream military to help provide for his family but there are several other main characters who are dealing with their own struggles and the story splits between them. If I'm being honest I cared more about Jake and his journey than I did about the other characters at the start and would have read a book just about him but I recognise that Scott is world building here and setting his stall out for how things are all going to come together later. By the end of the book you can see things coming together a little bit.

It's no secret I suppose that the series is about Mechs which are big sort of iron man style suits that can be used for war and as theres plenty of battle scenes. I can really see this being a TV series on Netflix or Amazon prime or something! Make it happen Scott!

As I wrote this I'm already on book 3 so I'm struggling to remember which book is which so I will end with my glowing recommendation and say that if you're into Scott's other books you'll certainly like this; and if you've never read any of Scott's other books you'll enjoy if you like military sci-fi.

A good book that approaches the genre from a different perspective. I listened to all 4 books back to back and would recommend anyone to do the same. Set in a capitalist "utopia" that is restricted to a single system, it doesn't take long for the cracks to show and battle to commence. The action scenes are excellent and the story is good, although it feels like a lot is taken for granted, which is quite possibly deliberate on the part of the author. Most, but not all, is explained by the end of the fourth book, although these answers themselves leave a number of questions.

Powered is performed by Mark Boyett, whose pleasant voice is well suited to the subject matter and whose narration is both nicely timed ànd modulated. His input enhances the enjoyment of the book.

In the far distant Steele System, two mining prospectors discover a mech unit buried in the ice of a comet. Reverse technology by Dark Stream Security builds more and a small, elite mech troop is formed and trained. They will be invaluable as protection should aliens become dangerous to the earth-like home world.
On an inhospitable planet in the same system, two rival gangs fight to claim supremacy in the only real city. Three young people shut outside, desperate try to stay alive.
Two main stories alternately zip together throughout the book without any apparent touching point. One is mostly mainstream action, with heavy duty battles, the other more thoughtful and unusual in approach although this, too, has it's fair share of fighting.

At first, this changing location and influx of new characters was slightly confusing but soon resolved into two intriguing storylines. Presumably, these will come together at some future date as the ending certainly leaves open the possibility of much more to come.

Interesting ideas and enjoyable action.

I enjoyed the expansion on the universe created by Scott.

I personally don’t like mechs and only listened because of the other story’s.

But I enjoyed the story and world building. The characters and aliens was interesting.

Roach was my favourite and how he handled a battle and how it effected him was very interning
