Summary

The first book of the smash-hit Wayward Pines trilogy, from the New York Times bestselling author of Dark Matter, Recursion, and Upgrade.

Secret Service agent Ethan Burke arrives in Wayward Pines, Idaho, with a mission: locate two federal agents who went missing in the bucolic town one month earlier. But within minutes of his arrival, Ethan is involved in a violent accident. He comes to in a hospital, with no ID, no cell phone, and no briefcase.

As the days pass, Ethan’s investigation turns up more questions than answers: Why can’t he get any phone calls through to his wife and son in the outside world? Why doesn’t anyone believe he is who he says he is? And what is the purpose of the electrified fences surrounding the town? Are they meant to keep the residents in? Or something else out?

Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan farther from the world he knew, from the man he was, until he must face a horrifying fact – he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.

The nail-bitingly suspenseful opening installment in Blake Crouch’s blockbuster Wayward Pines trilogy, Pines is at once a brilliant mystery tale and the first step into a genre-bending saga of suspense, science fiction, and horror.

Easy read

Once again A brilliant original idea from the author. Written with enough description to follow easily the main characters. The narration is occasionally a little bit “too much feeling” though not enough to distract to any extent. Onto the second volume we go.

surprise

I really enjoyed the book apart from the extreme violence that came out of nowhere. some twists and turns I didn't see coming which is always a nice surprise when taking in content! let's hope the other two are just as good

Unexpected Ending

This is an entertaining book until the ending, when it gets even more interesting! Some parts are kind of slow, but the ending made it worthwhile for me. Definitely going to get the next book!

I didn’t enjoy this book at all.

I found it slow and cliched. I’m not sure why it has such good reviews but I was clearly reading a different book!

I finished it just in case the ending somehow rescued the book… it didn’t.

Be prepared to feel

This is an exciting story, great sci-fi/thriller audio book but there is one thing I would say you need to know before purchasing. From start to finish you basically feel the suffering and pain of the main character throughout, there is no let up at any point and I've found myself questioning am I enjoying listening to the constant stress and anxiety of the main character as they fight to survive? It's exciting no question about it. I loved the premise of the story but it's not an 'easy listen'. If you've watched 'the handmaid's tale', I would liken it to that. The main character basically never gets a break and it's hard to actually enjoy. I'm about two hours from the end of the story so who knows, maybe there will be a happy ending........

Uuum okay....

After reading 2 books by Blake Crouch I can say this - it aeems he really likes exploring the f up side of humanity AND he writes pageturners.
Overall the story isn't bad, it is gripping and I know I have to disociate from the protagonist or I will come out of the book very very disturbed and doubting my reality.
On the other side, yhe story is kind of just...meh. There are some cringy moments and some that just don't make sense.
Overall, it is an ok 8 hours. I don't know if I will be picking up the next books in the series.

A gripping story

I burned through this one in a few days and can’t wait to see where it’s taken in the next book
