Critic reviews
'Evocatively written, Pennies is a gentle gem.' (Sydney Morning Herald)
'Jackie French's research and subsequent feeling for the era is superb (the descriptions of wartime Australia alone are fascinating). This is historical fiction at its best and thoroughly recommended for upper primary children and beyond.' (Australian Bookseller & Publisher)
'This striking fiction for school-age readers gives an unflinching view of war and a close-up human perspective on asylum seekers.' (The Age)

worthy of 10 stars.
Hadn't heard of this author, but as a lover of Humphry Bower and Bryce Courtenay, I bought this just from the reviews. So glad I did, amazing story, brilliantly read (as always). Highly recommended. I will look for Hitlers Daughter now.
