I usually love Adrian Gillen's narration, but here it was just too fast for the souce material, which made it hard to follow.

Brilliant book, worth all its plaudits and stands the test of time. Only slight issue, Aidan Gillen's voice is so well known, it took a good while for me not to be hearing his other characters instead of Paddy Clarke. Powerful storytelling, brilliantly written ending .

Wow! Just brilliant! The narrator is perfect for the book. When I first started listening I thought "Crikey! What is this?!". The story and the narrator transports you straight into the mind of an eight year old boy running riot in Ireland. It's very funny and entertaining, and the innocence of the story is also very sad. Just BRILLIANT!

This was a fantastic listening text. Gillen's brogue is entrancing. Doyle's dialogue and depth of character development and deep-seated issues discourse, totally destroyed my capacity do anything but sit and listen every chance I had; until it was finished.

There is absolutely nothing likeable to this story and no point. Loads of gratuitous torture, both of humans and animals. The story itself is a disconnected stream of consciousness and illogical ramblings. The narrator’s accent makes it difficult to understand at times. I really don’t get why this book got so many awards and seems to be so well liked by many. To me, it has absolutely no redeeming features at all.
