As usual Josephine writes a gripping story. I can feel the hatred for caleb crouther, a money grabbing thug.

Slow start didn’t hold out much hope for this book,then I thought it was going to be a Mills and Boon romance. How wrong I was I’m pleased to say. It’s a good book and having read the first one looking forward to the second in the series.

A good story but very harsh and sad so don’t read if you’re feeling down as this story will definitely not cheer you up! It is still a good read and for those who don’t want fluffy fairytales, this is raw and gritty and shows all the tragedies of some lives, especially back in the 1800s

Liked the story, even the tragic & sad parts.
Disliked the staccato style of narrator although the accents of characters was genuine.

A good reflection on life in 1860s England

This was too Catherine Cookson or maive binchy like for me. There were some real opportunities to add depth such as the demise of cotton mills and the realities of life. There were quite a few holes left at the end which are not possible to describe without lots of spoilers.
The vagueness of each sub plot was the most dissatisfying.
The narration though was excellent so it made it very listenable.
