Summary

In Order of Merit, we encounter a famous classical guitarist who is loved by audiences all over the world, not only for his masterful technical skill and compelling, instinctive musicality, but also for his charismatic stage personality. However, his consummate showmanship is all just a cover for his other, more sinister occupation - away from the concert platform he is also a professional hitman, cold, ruthless and efficient. Cunning and calculating, his missions are always accomplished fully, expertly and without a hitch. But, when his next target turns out to be related to one of his best friends, things can only get ugly...Who would've thought the music profession could be so deadly?

So original with excellent insights.

As a concert guitarist myself, I loved the excellent insights and references. Very well written and an original storyline. Couldn’t wait to pick up where I left off.

Compelling

This is not only a great storyline; it's also a very good collection of character studies.
I was immediately drawn into the story - visualising the dramatics personae, intrigued by the twists and turns of the plot...and amused and transfixed in turn by the unexpected changes of direction.

As a musician myself, I enjoyed the musical subtext; but in reality, this book is much more than just a story about music: it is a brooding thriller, with all the hallmarks of the great suspense stories.

The trick of any novel surely must be whether or not the reader/listener is carried along in a wave of suspended disbelief.

Well, I was. It's a terrific story, and I recommend it to you! Beautifully read too.

Enjoyed

Andrew Cullum is brilliant narrator for this book

This is my first Richard Storry and I have so enjoyed listening to this book

I have learnt about the music , but loved the thriller side. The thought of a famous guitarist who is loved by audiences all over the world , also being a professional hitman , cold, ruthless and efficient; is brilliant.
