About this listen

Finn has lived with the pressure of hockey’s expectations since he was old enough to understand his father was one of the greatest the sport had ever known.

He’s changed positions. Changed plans. Changed colleges. But he’s never managed to outrun the pressure.

When it starts ruining his performance on the ice, he knows he needs to find a way to conquer it once and for all.

Desperation sends him running to the one man he thinks can help him. Jacob Braun, a goalie who played against his father.

It doesn’t matter that they hated each other, Finn will use him—use everything—to figure out how to beat this mental block. Even seduce his father’s greatest enemy.

What Finn wasn’t expecting was that they don’t just burn hot in bed, but on the ice, too. And that, ultimately, it isn’t Jacob’s brain he wants to pick apart, it’s his heart he wants to own.

Another fun entry into the Portland Evergreens universe! I really enjoyed this audiobook and listened to it in just two or so days. I was hooked. Plus Darcy Stark once again does a great job of bringing these characters to life!

This has all the hallmarks of a book I normally wouldn't like: age gap, some connection to the younger MC's dad, etc. But I had a great time listening to this story! I also appreciated the slow building growth of the relationship between the two MCs, especially how Jacob helped Finn be more confident in himself, as well as the growth & healing that started between Finn and his dad....I am sure we will get a Morgan book in the future!

Another fun addition to this series!

Listening to this story had me loving this book all over again. Finn was not in the right headspace playing on the ice, especially when his Hockey famous dad shared his opinion on how to play. Finn knows there is only one man who can help, the only man that got under his dad's skin, Goalie Jacob Braun.
The narration was spot on with the MCs being instantly recognisable. You could even tell there was an age gap, with Jacob sounding older than Finn. At times you could really hear the desperation in Finn wanting to be the best he could. The inner turmoil of Jacob when he tries to fight his feelings for Finn. Some of my favourite scenes was when drink was involved and those scenes had me sniggering to myself.
Listening to Morgan has me excited for his story,
Another great addition to this series and one I will be relistening to again

Story: Jacob and Finn are definitely my favorites in this series, hands down. I loved books 1 and 2, but this one?! Blew it out of the park! Everything about these two was written and executed masterfully well. The story is relatable, the emotions run high and all the feels felt like my own. Perfection.
Narration: Great performance! Darcy Stark matched the voices to characters perfectly.

Pure fire!

This is the 3rd Portland Evergreens book and is part of Beth's wider universe. On Thin Ice focuses on Finn a college Goalie & son of NHL star Morgan Reynolds who feels this pressure deeply. Then enters Jacob, an ex NHL goalie & Finn's Dads nemesis, whom is struggling since retiring due to an injury. The pining between Finn & Jacob made me want to scream, but when they got together 🫠🥵🔥 I loved how they were honest with each other & supported each other with truths.

Darcy Stark brought Finn & Jacob alive and I felt both of their struggles deeply. Darcy Stark is quickly becoming one of my favourite narrators.

First thoughts are 1. This was the best book so far in this series. 2. I need a Morgan/Ramsey book like yesterday! A little disappointed to see the next book is a couple that weren't even a blip on my radar and I saw a post saying it was the last book in the series!

I really loved this story. Both of the MCs were very loveable. They made a great couple. This was an easy read with no relationship angst and some good steam. It was definitely a slow burn but the perfect amount. I was drawn in right from the start as there was so much steamy tension and teasing that I loved. Both were pining over each other but not wanting to give in. Even before the steam you could feel the chemistry between them. Then later with them sneaking around due to Jacob not being out yet and Finn wanting to avoid telling his dad for awhile. It was a fun read from start to finish. I loved how supportive Jacob was of Finn even after his own hockey career got ended to an injury.

Once again this book had a great world building. There were less names dropped in relationship to the team but when they did show up they definitely intrigued me to want more books

The only thing negative I can say about this book is the relationship development kind of went from 0-60 and it felt noticeably sped up in a way that felt unrealistic and gave me pause. I did go back and thought did I miss a chapter. But at the same time I was so ready for them to just give in by that point that I'm not going to let it affect my rating.

Darcy did a great job with the narration. He had a pleasant reading voice. I did speed it up alot but I enjoyed the easy flow of the narrator. He expressed all the emotions wonderfully and brought the story to life. He gave all the characters including the side characters distinct voices that suited them perfectly and it made it easy to follow the story and a pleasure to listen to.

Beth Bolden is one of my favorite sports romance authors! The adrenaline, the thrill of the game, the team camaraderie, all of it was front and center in Finn and Jacob's story and quickly got me invested in the ups and downs of their journey. Finn was a pretty awesome goalie who was on the verge of a breakdown because he was trying to hold himself to an impossible standard and kept letting his NHL superstar dad's words get him all twisted up. When he sought out Jacob, his dad's NHL rival, for coaching, I knew he was really desperate to find a release valve for all the pressure building up inside him. Their sparks of chemistry were an unexpected (but very enjoyable) wrinkle in Finn's plans, and while hockey was the main focus of their working relationship, their mutual attraction simmered in the background of every interaction. Jacob was a little grumpy, a little lost, and a little lonely after his retirement from hockey, and I'm not even sure he knew what he was looking for to give his life a greater purpose. Coaching Finn wasn't exactly in the plans, but every day that Finn's practice drills got better and his confidence grew, it was hard to argue that he was undoing years of internalized negativity and making him an even better player.

Romance wise, Finn was such an instigator -- he was not shy about going after what he wanted and that including seducing the heck out of Jacob until he gave in to their chemistry. There was nothing technically forbidden about the two of them dating, but the knowledge that Finn's father would hate the idea of Jacob corrupting his boy was ever-present. That didn't stop Finn and Jacob from falling hard and fast for each other, and it didn't take long at all for them to drop the facade that they were just scratching an itch and admit they were interested in a serious relationship. Their bedroom chemistry was crazy good, but what made me even happier was seeing how deeply Jacob and Finn understood each other and how they connected emotionally. Hockey was central to the narrative, because it was central to Jacob and Finn's lives, but that was by no means the only thing they had going on. Finn's father played a much larger role in this book than I originally expected, but thinking back to the root of Finn's insecurities, it made total sense that a big part of his journey would be patching things up with his dad. I was satisfied with how Morgan redeemed himself with both Jacob and Finn in this book -- he definitely had some self-reflecting to do, but once he started listening he was able to play a more supportive role in Finn's life and let go of his silly hatred for Jacob. By the end of this book, things were headed in a really good direction for Jacob and Finn, and I couldn't be happier with the way the epilogue tied everything up!

Dad’s best friend is a good trope… but dad’s sworn enemy? It might be even better!
I loved Finn and Jacob, they are perfect together and they complement each other beautifully (and yes, I ended up liking Finn’s dad, Morgan, a lot, too!). Jacob does try to do the honorable thing and resist his attraction to Finn in the beginning, but with not much success, and, well, he doesn’t even try so hard!
I love Beth Bolden’s books, especially her hockey romances, they make me laugh and choke up and hey, this one was very steamy, too!

Darcy Stark did a fantastic job performing this story. How to describe how much I loved this book? … It made my eyes leak more than once which is a sure sign that I loved it because it also means that I got emotional while reading it and to me that is the sign of a really good book.

This book has an age gap that isn’t beat to death (I don’t like it much when the characters keep saying we shouldn’t do this). It has a great hockey goalie who needs a confidence boost and he gets that boost from the man his father hated during his hockey career.

Jacob agrees to help Finn with hockey and Finn agrees to help Jacob handle coming out publicly now that his hockey career is over. Neither of them expected the red-hot lust to become something much more meaningful.

There really isn’t a lot for me to say that isn’t already in the blurb other than I loved all of the characters in this story – yes even Finn’s father, Morgan, who’s the one you’re supposed to hate. He’s pretty awful to Finn but we learn so much about him and by the end he’s become a better father. I was happy to learn that he will get his own book after the series is finished.

I loved it!

I love the Evergreens team and Finn has been an intriguing character from the start and to finally get his story and for it to fully deliver in surprising ways was even better!
Teaming up with your dad's rival was always a risk but as soon as these two set sights on each other you can feel the heat. The chemistry is off the charts and I actually loved the continual denial to act on their chemistry early on. It made it so much hotter when they finally gave in and helped their connection grow, adding in feelings, emotions and more as they fought each other and deal with Finn's confidence.
Ramsey needs his story told! He's an enigma and I want to know more!
Jacob and Morgan's banter, "no blood" arguments and eventual begrudging friendship was weaved so well it added a new layer to the story. I can't wait for Morgan's book and look forward to more Jacob chirps and perhaps some well timed and persistent interruptions as payback.
Such wonderful characters, steam and heart and just the right amount of humor to hook up all the way through!

Fun, heated and compelling!
