About this listen

The definitive biography: featuring an introductory interview with LL Cool J and epilogue from Paul Rosenberg, Eminem's manager.

In 1999, a former dishwasher from Detroit became the most influential music artist in the world. Eminem's dexterity, wit and honesty turned him into one of the biggest-selling artists of all time and changed the landscape of music and pop culture as we know it.

Then, in 2006, at the height of his fame, he all but disappeared. Beset by nonstop controversies, bewildering fame, a debilitating drug problem and personal tragedies, he withdrew from the world. Over the next decade, he struggled and suffered through what he would call his 'wilderness years' but eventually managed to get sober, get clean and get, triumphantly, back to the top.

Not Afraid is the definitive account of that story.

In this revelatory book, which follows on directly from the best-selling Whatever You Say I Am, rock journalist Anthony Bozza chronicles the personal and spiritual growth of one of music's most enduring and enigmatic artists through the insights of those closest to him, including Royce da 5'9", LL Cool J, Mr Porter, Paul Rosenberg and other friends and associates.

Capturing Eminem's toughest years in his own words, Not Afraid is a uniquely intimate portrait of an incredibly private man known by many to be the greatest rapper alive.

This was an interesting listen, although at times some of the anecdotes seemed loosely connected to Eminem's story.

Interesting listen

It’s a good book and I knew most the information but it’s still worth a listen

Some unknown knowledge

LL Cool Jay instantly put me off in his opening monologue. saying because Em is white he had advantages over others, what he fails to say is he was a huge star long before Em came on the scene.
moaned about Motown saying the whites didnt put there money into it when it was going on. what did he want, donations? my mum born in the 50s in UK. she is white. she spend all her pocket money buying records from Motown and still does.

didn't make it far

could not even get past chapter 1 without being incredibly bored of it, just the sound of the mans voice is dreary and uninteresting. removed the book as did not want to carry on listening to it

awful

Sorry but as biographies go this ain’t a good one. Too much boring detail about tracks and not enough true life grit stories. Disappointing.

Boring

Loosely talks about Eminem more down to authors opinion on white privilege basically slating all white artists in hip hop wouldn’t recommend

Not an Eminem biography

Misleading synopsis. It only loosely talks about Eminem. An overall disappointing listen. Found the author was provided his own opinions rather than any real insight/facts.
