Summary

Meet the world's most unusual undercover team. It can be tough working for HM Revenue & Customs, but DJ Smith has more than a little help from her trained sniffer cat, Gorgonzola, a moth-eaten Persian with gourmet tastes and a mind of her own.

This first investigation finds DJ and Gorgonzola on the trail of a heroin smuggling ring operating in and around Edinburgh. Their first port of call is the White Heather Hotel, owned by the formidable Morag Mackenzie, who rules her domain, and her husband, with steely efficiency.

Beneath the innocent surface of the country house hotel eddies a sinister undercurrent, and soon one death leads to another.

Awful narration

while I enjoyed the books the narration was terrible, The accents made it so I couldn't listen and the pronunciation of place names was really off putting too

Is this a kids book?

Whilst there is no reference to the fact on the Audible website this must surely be a children's book?! A blundering, unsophisticated and mindlessly stupid 'detective' sent on a mission with zero back-up or support. Do we really belive that this is the way the British government operates? Also perhaps one of the most ill researched books I have read/listened to. For example our heroine disables her own car to fake a breakdown by cutting the 'drive belt' in her ford saloon. Erm I think she means fan belt. I guess the plot weaknesses and desperate nature of the heroine are understandable if this is a book written for the under ten market. In which case, Audible PLEASE let us know before we buy!! Discerning reader beware, all others good luck but you are probaly not reading this review anyway as you leave that tricky task to mummy and daddy. I am giving up 10% the way through but I can already guess - IT'S THE GRAVY NOT THE HAGGIS!!

A Pleasant Read

This an easy story to follow without the complicated twists of other books. The characters are all recognisable from people who you have probably met.
The book is also a great tour around the east coast of Scotland makes this book even more interesting if you know the area.
