Summary

No Easy Deeds is neither a time travel novel nor a rom-com, but it cleverly blends elements of both genres. Genuinely funny, nostalgic, and occasionally touching, it’s another gem of a story from the bestselling British author, Keith A Pearson.

Not that he's counting but, 409 days ago, life was rosy for Danny Monk. Today, the 3rd of September 1990, Danny's future seems almost as bleak as the British economy in the new decade - the glamour and glitz of the '80s replaced by a deep recession, crippling interest rates, and mass riots over the poll tax.

Then, by pure chance, Danny stumbles upon a new job opportunity. The prospect of becoming an estate agent holds little appeal but, as one of the two million unemployed, any job is better than no job. Danny accepts the role of trainee negotiator with Gibley Smith.

Little does he know it, but Danny's new job will result in the strangest of encounters, and an offer that seems almost too good to be true - complete a somewhat unorthodox challenge in exchange for the deeds of a detached house.

What Danny doesn't realise is that there's far more to both his challenge and reward than he could possibly imagine. For better or for worse, 1990 is destined to be the year that irrevocably changes Danny Monk's future.

Keith nailed it again.

I loved this book, all the characters were so real and it took me back to 1990 when I was first working in an office next door to an estate agent. Thanks for the reminder of Drakkar Noir and Kouros too!

slow burn easy listen

A good book, although a little slow getting going, it was nice to get to know the new characters and felt there is plenty more mileage in the follow up book(s).

I particularly liked the suspenseful ending leaving a lot of un answered questions.

if your looking for a classic Pearson novel which is easy to follow and one that takes you for a romp down memory lane, look no further.

well done Keith, keep up the excellent work.

A virtual page turner

The narration was great, the storyline was excellent and has left me wanting more.
Before the book was halfway through I was already sad about the fact this is the first book in a new series and I wouldn't be able to download the next one immediately afterwards. I listened to the book in two sittings over two days while working from home. So it really was a page turner for me.

Great new addition to the Keith Collection!

Loved it, huge fan of Keith’s previous work anyway and this was no exception. Reminded me of his first book - The 86 Fix, with a nice twist at the end. Really interesting storyline, not just for sci-fi fans. Lots of lovely nostalgic themes and memories of my 80s/90s childhood! I really liked the introduction to the new characters and look forward to hearing more about Danny and the team at Gibley Smith in the next book - roll on spring 2025!
