About this listen
After the deadly trick of the Wooden Horse and the destruction of Troy, the hero Aeneas sets sail with a small number of refugees to find a new homeland. Among those travelling with him are Nisus and Euryalus. Only boys when they flee their burning city, they are teens by the time they reach their destination. During their seven-year quest the two have trained to be warriors, and formed an unbreakable bond. Now, united by a desire to prove their bravery, the two friends decide to go on a daring night raid through a sleeping camp of hostile warriors.
This gripping tale from Virgil's Aeneid explores themes of friendship, loyalty, and self-sacrifice. Short, brutal and tragic, this story is perfect for reluctant or busy teen listeners, especially those studying Latin or Ancient History.

Compassionate and innovative retelling
An engaging and vividly described version of part of Virgil’s Aeneid book 9. Caroline Lawrence brings to life the intensity of the bond shared between these two youths at a pivotal point in the mythical history of Rome.

A perfect intro for an adult newbie to the Aeneid!
This was such a wonderful and powerful intro into The Aeneid by Virgil. I find that children’s books are the perfect way into the classics, and Caroline Day Lawrence does that so well. The book was certainly written for children but it was just as enjoyable for an adult who wants to enjoy the classics - and absolutely does not stray away from the real violence, plunder and war in the classics. This is defintely an excellent gift for the kids in your life who want to start on the classics.
I’m not a big audio book girly (ADHD brain) but the narrator had a lovely pace and cadence, very easy to follow and enjoy.
Thank you to Caroline Day Lawrence for gifting me the audio book on audible!
