Summary

The climactic finale of the Great Schools of Dune Trilogy, set 10,000 years before Frank Herbert’s classic Dune. Navigators of Dune is a fascinating portal into vital components of the mesmerizing, intense universe of Dune.

Navigators, mutated by spice into beings far superior to normal humans, make space travel possible across the burgeoning Imperium. Their prescient awareness allows them to foresee safe paths through the universe as starship engines 'fold' space. Only industrial magnate Josef Venport knows the secret of creating Navigators, and he intends to build a commercial empire to span the galaxy. But at every turn Josef is embattled by the forces of anti-technology fanaticism, 'Butlerian' zealots led by the charismatic and dangerous Manford Torondo, who wishes to countermand humanity’s new renaissance and drive the Imperium back into a dark age. And between those titanic forces stands the uncertain new Emperor Roderick Corrino, forced to take the throne after the assassination of his brother. The Navigators are the key to charting a glorious future for humanity...or the end of civilization.

Another fantastic story of Dune

You're hard pressed to find better authors.

A fantastic story with such an arch, but well written across all three books. So many characters across so many years. But the pace is perfect, I'd read the books, but could stop listening.

Excellent narration and characterization by Scott Brick.

Just excellent!

Another wonderful end to another fantastic trilogy. Scott Brick shines again, as always, and I can’t wait for the next addition to the extended universe.

Flawed, yet essential reading

A truly massive opera must have a few low points and the middle section of Navigators is probably one of them. It recovers quite well so you won't be massively disappointed. Scott Brick keeps you going to the end. It's probably a 3.5 star rating overall.

Satisfying Ending

After 3 books of the conflict simmering between Venport and Butlerians, it all comes to a satisfying ending that firmly establishes the Dune universe.

Good

Good instalment in the series. Somehow, the first half felt a bit too dragged out compared to the previous books but it then evolves into to some interesting arcs. I also enjoyed very much the asymmetric clash of forces and what unfolded. I would say the last 3rd of the book makes it worth the effort. Looking forward to the next one.

okay....just okay

As the title suggests, just okay. Feels unfinished with loose endings. i suppose it leaves the door open for the next chapter. Otherwise okay.
