Summary
Be inspired by saints like never before in My Life with the Saints by James Martin, SJ. This best-selling memoir of spiritual self-discovery is an homage to the saints who have accompanied Fr. Martin throughout his life. From a lukewarm childhood Catholicism, to the Wharton School of Business, to the executive fast track at General Electric, to the Jesuits, to a media career in Manhattan, Martin has relied on the saints to intervene in and guide his life.
As Martin shares with us his many surprising encounters and journeys with the saints, he convincingly explains how we, too, can be close friends with the saints.

Honest and very 'readable' tale of the author's spiritual pathway
I love the way James Martin tells his tale personally. He has a pleasant tone of voice and his delivery is convincing.
His book is both entertaining, spiritually helpful and his journey is fascinating.
Now I want to get a paper copy to be able to ponder a bit more easily. There is material for meditation here.

Thought provoking and informative
What did you like best about this story?
The manner in which Saints were shown to be human, with human failings, albeit the difference between them and I is, I don't even have the word!
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The introduction to new saints and more information on saints I was already aware of but whose special grace I did not fully understand.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It invoked positive emotions overall. Some parts did make me laugh, some gave cause for reflection.
Any additional comments?
Having read a number of other books by James Martin S.J., because he is providing his own thought there is a quantity of repetition. Overall this does not detract from the presentation, it still totals 12 and a half hours in the audible format some a little bit of repetition is to be expected. I found the Chapter on Our Lady interesting for the time allowed to it. Considering 120 hours would still not do this area of study or devotion justice, overall a very good job.

Honesty.
Liked ordinariness. Variety. Who asks for review of 15 words? Isn’t star rating sufficient? Is this request more about money than sincerity?

If you want a Catholic perspective - go elsewhere.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A Catholic faithfully witnessing to the Catholic Faith, the Way, the Truth, and the Life, as a Catholic .. not an ego-fest, dressed up in 'My Life' humility, and covering a multitude of opinions hostile to the Church.
Has My Life With the Saints put you off other books in this genre?
Yes.
Would you be willing to try another one of James Martin’s performances?
Not unless I have to.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes, of course there were. It was going cheap, it was mercifully short, and relatively revealing of the writer, also it did a fairly good job of presenting a boundless ego in the context of his limited Social Justice Warriorship.
Any additional comments?
It is well written - for the snatch-and-go (majority) spirituality that we face .. or enjoy .. today. This is genuinely comforting, even lulling, and helpful if you want to take the heroic virtues of the listed saints .. and bend them to suit your own will - not take up your cross, with them, and follow the Pioneer of our Faith. But do not be mistaken, Fr Martin does not present the Catholic Faith, not even via his personal opinions; if you desire to know the Faith, go to the books that tend not to be on sites like this .. Tumblar House,Tan Books, Sheed And Ward (currently with Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group) .. etc ...
