Set in 1834 London, this time travel historical romance features a small cast of historical characters, including Ada Byron, Lord Byron's daughter, and Charles Babbage, inventor of the Difference Engine. It explores the often overlooked scientific developments of pre-Victorian London.

It's so rare to find such a well written historical romance that is as romantic as it is plot (not sex) driven. This was such an enjoyable story and so wonderfully narrated that it successfully sent me to the author's website and now I'm off to the next in series!

Loved the story and the narrator was very good. Mary Jane Wells is one of the few female narrators I enjoy listening to.
At times Isabel was a bit annoying.
She was a bit too headstrong for my liking. But I loved Lord Montague.
But definitely worth a credit and will definitely continue the series.

Obviously, to enjoy any novel centred around time travel, you have to suspend your disbelief to a fairly large degree. I’m afraid I found that incredibly difficult to do with this story. The main character was supposed to be a historian but (other than a few sporadic historical facts here and there) displayed a knowledge of the customs of the time period on par with someone who has read a few (not particularly accurate) historical romance novels and maybe watched a period drama on TV. Her constant “slips” are obviously meant to be funny or highlight the difference between the time periods, but they are so frequent and overdone that it makes it impossible to settle into the story. This added to the fact that none of the other characters act even remotely historically accurately 90% of the time means the “historical” part of the historical romance is a bit pointless. And there’s nothing else about the story to recommend it. We are constantly being reminded of the main character’s intelligence and sense, but she never displays this in the thoughts or actions we are shown. She frankly comes across as self absorbed and rather dim witted. Both the characters and plot lack depth. This is very much of a surface level situational comedy/romance with the thinnest veneer of a historical element to give it purpose, but it fell short for me. At least the narration was decent.
