About this listen

For centuries Jane Austen's classic novel, Pride and Prejudice, has been dearly loved he world over. However, few people know the hidden truth about Mr. Darcy's closest friend, the affable Mr. Bingley—who is much more than he appears on first impression.

Mr. Bingley: Just as a Gentleman Ought to Be is the previously untold story of a young man who unwittingly uncovers an evil cabal among the British Empire's aristocracy. Bingley finds himself confronting an enterprise so nefarious, he cannot help but act to redress it, even if it costs him his own reputation and the love of his life, the angelic Miss Jane Bennet.

Follow Mr. Bingley down a rabbit hole of intrigue and corruption, as he fights to protect the country's most vulnerable alongside friends old and new. Can he set things right before he loses Jane forever?

"Finally, a novel that reveals the true Bingley! Heartily recommend to all Bingley-philes!" (Crispin Bonham-Carter, Mr. Bingley in the BBC Miniseries, Pride & Prejudice)

I’ve long enjoyed Jane Austen’s stories and characters & love authors taking them in different directions. I really hadn’t encountered Mr Bingley in anything like the manner presented here! I’m not sure it’s a classic, but I really enjoyed it! Loved Ben Fensome’s narration too.

Clever expansion of such well known characters

Wonderfull story - Jane Austen meets The Scarlett Pimpernel. Bens voice is a mixture of all my favorite regency boyfriends and it makes me melt! I need more books read by him.

I loved everything about this!

Overall it was an enjoyable spin-off and I happily listened to the end. I particularly liked the narration. Ben's ability to assume different characters' voices and mannerisms is phenomenal. Some of the language felt a bit anachronistic but it was a minor thing.

Excellent narration of an entertaining story.

Even though the premise and the plot are quite over the top and ridiculous at times, it's a very fun, light and entertaining listen. I couldn't stop listening and the voice acting was great.

Very entertaining

I have been following Ben Fensomes version of Pride and Prejudice which has caused me to spit my tea out on more than one occasion. His narration is brilliant and did allow me to overlook a few plot holes in this story. Very enjoyable

Fabulous narration

I had never come across this book, but as a huge Pride and prejudice fan I immediately listened to it! The story is superb, the way it weaves so perfectly to the original text is very clever and the narration by the infinitely talented Ben Fensome was a joy to listen to! 10 out of 10!

Stunning!

Ben Fensome reads this with great style and an engaging tone, I will seek out his audio work going forward.

The story is excellently tied into the original plot of P&P, and in an unusual take for the genre, had adventure and crime at its heart.

The writer has good understanding of the period with a few anachronisms, however, this is one of the best Pride and Prejudice variations I've read by quite a way!

The justification of so many details from Austen's work, even down to Mr Hirst's character, are cleverly woven into a new layer of plot. Though at times very dark, I felt that this was an entirely respectful tribute to JA.

Excellent narration

I was drawn to this book from Ben Fensome's amazing Instagram account, and his narration certainly did not disappoint. On the whole the plot was a lovely escapist little jaunt, but a few plot holes and general implausibility did challenge my suspension of disbelief.

Overall a wonderful experience

I absolutely LOVED this book! What a twist, that amiable Mr Bingley is secretly fighting evil on the side. In some ways very faithful to the events of P and P but lots of extra stuff going on too. I loved the twists and had no idea what was coming next. I really liked Bingley's sidekicks like Maitland. Ben Fensome does an awesome job as narrator and I hope he gets hired to read more audiobooks.

Loved this rollicking roller coaster of adventure!
