Summary
Mortality Bites: Publisher's Pack contains Books 1 and 2 of the Mortality Bites series.
Mortality Bites, Book 1:
Mythical creatures are real, and the world is just finding out. Discovering that your neighbor was once an evil, blood-sucking fiend tends to bring property values down.
Katrina Darling’s only real friend has been murdered. And not just murdered - ritually sacrificed by a serial killer. Kat is sure more death will follow. She should know...she used to be the monster plunging the blade in. Trouble is, after 300 years of being a vampire, Kat has forgotten what it means to be human. One thing she does remember is that friends matter. Now she's determined to find whoever - or whatever - killed her friend before more victims surface. But just as the hunt begins, a mysterious young man discovers exactly what she was. Kat has a decision to make: run and keep her monstrous past hidden, or avenge her friend and save the city from a merciless serial killer.
Family Matters, Book 2:
Family matters...but so does breathing.
All I want is to be a normal college student, doing normal human stuff...you know - date the resident hunk, study, date some more. But when you’re once undead mother pops in for a surprise visit, well, that's anything but normal. I think it’s best to make good ol' mom's visit as short as possible. But when a deranged stalker from our past, hell-bent on making my mother suffer, interrupts our little dysfunctional family reunion, I’m forced into a perilous fight that could very well get me, my boyfriend, and everyone I know killed. I’m Katrina Darling, a 300-year-old ex-vampire who apparently still has mommy issues.
If you like the Dresden Files, Mercy Thompson, or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then you’ll be helplessly addicted to the Mortality Bites series!

A great fantasy story with good characters
I really liked these books. Good stories, imaginative story line and I felt connected to the reader. I loved learning about Katrina learning to be human and all the things that come with it. I’m definitely going to see if I can find the next books.

Mortality Bites
This is a fantastic story of what would happen if the fantasy fiction was true and then all the human subspecies where then human again. An unusual way of them trying to work out how to go back to being human and fit in, only there are now fictional character's trying to join into this world too. Excellent characters with great interaction, read brilliantly by Candace Thaxton.

I love this! I associated very well with Kat!
Funny enough my name is Katrina, I'm from North Scotland, and know inverness well, it is not too far from where I was brought up, and I have been there often so when I started listening i did the listening equivalent of a double take. Frankly if I could I'd be a vampire so this was totally up my street and funny enough also close to home. Clearly meant to be.
I really enjoyed the story too, and it is an incredibly interesting idea that it is built around with the gods also, really impressed by the characters, various different beliefs, races and characters, and the lore behind it is amazing, the depth of imagination and thought put into it all is incredible and I often find myself mulling over some of the fantastic beings mentioned. Excited for the next one! And will be looking into this author to find out more!

a good story
an unusual but ultimately fun piece of writing, such a shame that the narration spoiled it.

Highly Listenable
I stumbled across this audio book by accident, but I'm really glad I did.
It had a great story line, likeable characters, and definitely some that grow on you.
It is an easy listen, nothing to heavy or too complicated.
I definitely recommend.

Great Lead Character.
This was light and funny while it still looked deeply on humanity., weighing up what should be imprtant to us.
The main character Miss Kit Darling has had a difficult life when she seems to have no power over the major changes in her life and those around her. However she is fiesty and funny. She learns a lot about human pain, acceptance, forgiveness and love.
I would recommend this good it a very goog story with unexpected twists.
