The brutal murders of a young couple send Detective Carrie Lloyd and her partner, Guy Maclin, into a South Memphis neighborhood on New Year's Eve. The confusing crime scene gives them little to go on, and progress is slow.

"Take the right path ..."

A double homicide on New Years Eve: a young couple shot, gangland style, with no apparent motive. Slowly, Detective Lloyd and her partner Guy, compile evidence, take statements, track movements and slowly build plausible assumptions of what might have happened. Then they have to prove it.
Written from the p.o.v. of the two police officers, this reads !like a well written crime report, moving sequentially from one time period and place to the next. It could be dry and boring but instead gives a reality to the investigation, with just enough character development to round out the protagonists. This is further e handed by the excellent delivery of narrator, Robin Siegerman. Her voice is deliciously deep, well modulated and she gives individual voicing to each of the various lersons. A fine performance which enhanced the enjoyment of the book.

Not fine literature, perhaps, but an enjoyable detective crime drama, systematically developed and un demanding to follow. And at less than five hours in length, fits comfortably into a limited time reading schedule. Recommended.
