Thoroughly enjoyed the book and the narrator - he did the voices very well indeed

Fantastic

Well, I had tears in my eyes at the end, no spoilers.
Once again, we have a story which takes us on a roller coaster ride through Alex Veras’ life as a
Mage. So much happens here that it sometimes difficult to keep up! As someone once said ‘Hang on tight, it’s going to be a bumpy ride’!

Better and better with each book.

I really wish that these Verus books were better than they are. The magical setup is good, characters are diverse and story arc keeps you guessing but the books are always a bit disappointing.
There’s very little ‘real’ London in this book, many of the most interesting characters and devices are absent.
It’s all shouty political and military manoeuvres with some soppy love interest thrown in.
Set pieces conjure up gaming visuals and the narration is increasingly like a straight-to-video voiceover.
Central character Anne is dull by name, dull by nature. And this instalment is pretty dull too, which is a real shame. But the cover is nice.

Another day another battle

I enjoy the political drama as well as the information on the history of magic and magical creatures, but the story is getting a bit repetitive with Alex being sent out on yet another quest while everyone thinks he is playing for the other team. And indeed by the end of it, morally he is taking another step in this direction.
Surely we are slowly entering the final stretch of the story and I hope that the author can really make it come together.

A bit repetitive but still very good

Brilliant book series, I listened to a full book a day every day until I finished it. Can't wait for the next book.

I will be listening again and again. Loved the story, very descriptive, the battles, magic, power characters are put together to hold the reader spell bound.

Excellent book

The bottom line of any book is whether you get bored at any point and this book kept me engaged all the way through

Gildart Jackson once again brings the story to life superbly.

Highly recommended.

Another superb addition to the Verus series

The beginning feels quite distant from the ongoing character storylines, so I found it harder to get into. Gets better once it returns to the characters. As always, the narrator is great

Takes longer to get into

several exciting twists; excellent display of the growth of the characters from the first and second books. And a much more in depth dive into the politics of the world. let's just hope Alex and Caldara can get on...

what a cliffhanger - but a good one
