Summary
"You will move through this world as a wraith...."
In the aftermath of the Cygnaran civil war, warcaster Allister Caine has become a fugitive, hiding out in a backwater town where little ever happens.
Until the bodies start piling up, and Caine is accused of murder. And Caine can't be entirely sure he's innocent.
With only a cryptic riddle whispered in his ear, a mysterious rune tattooed on his arm, and an unusual little girl by his side, Caine will need to stay one step ahead of the elite squad of hunters known as the Black 13th. As they close in, bent on bringing him to justice for crimes he might not have committed, Caine must unravel why everyone he's ever known is suddenly marked for death...and keep from becoming his own final victim.

Great steampunk story, worth the listen!
Got cowboys, spells and demons with some cool characters, worth it with the audible prime thing, it's free, why not?

Surprisingly good
No expectations but a very good book, very interesting story (though predictable) and the performance was spot on

Performed well. story was a bit disappointing
Can't fault the performance. Story was not terrible but was not great either. Characters were not bad but a little flat. Dialogue was good 👍. Locations were cool and well described. The magic system was pretty good. I didn't really care about the villain. Story didn't really grab me.

A interesting enough story to keep you listening
The story is a lone gunslinger type who manages to dig himself a hole that he has to get out of type story. Throw in a bit of rune magic, the baddies and you get the overall idea. on the surface it shouldn't really work. But it pulled me in and i ended up thinking its above alot of other stuff ive tried to listen to.
The narrator does pretty well some voices get a bit to samey here and there but for the most part, its a good performance.
Ill assume there will be a second book so ill pick that up when it arrives.

Repetetive
Basic story idea quite good but I fast forwarded through a lot of it. FAR too many ridiculous fights which did not take the story anywhere. Shan't bother with the rest of the series, although I had started off by thinking that I would.
