Critic reviews

"A page turner, blending historical accuracy with thrilling and imaginative plot twist and turns." (The Times)

Too long to keep interest . I listened a few times over hoping the ending would become more interesting but still not a book I will remember or recommend

Not very exciting as a story.

Good lord! Overly long and the main protagonist is an idiot! Interesting story but as I said too long. Tbh, I could have done with the parallel ancient story. Love David McCallion almost as much as Angus King (but not quite!) Glad it was a free one.

The narration.

Good story with the time switches not annoying as they can be. Sadly I worked out the final plot twist quite early on which was a shame. But still an enjoyable listen and I liked the historical content.

Good undemanding listen

Like the Egyptian theme and story, spoiled (in my mind/taste) by the wet happy ever after love interest which was disappointing - as if someone was involved (clearly visible involvement in from chapters earlier) in killing/rooking me I’d not give them another chance 🙈🤔

Good story

disliked Alex's slowness at picking up clues esp how long it took him to realise his "friend" Pete was most definitely not on the side of the angels. though I fess up to missing B's treachery.... just thought she was slow on the uptake too. narrator has a good voice but I don't like the delivery, too slow in responses which spoils the flow of the story.

the possibility of history being wrong

David McCallion is now on my list of top performers. really well read.
Murder mystery and the solving of ancient Egyptian cluesmakes it a great story that keeps you listening to the end. Granted I did binge it on a 12 hour journey to Scotland, but it kept you captivated to the end. the author keeps you guessing about the loyalists individuals. Great fun.

Dan Brown meets Hercule Poirot

Rather rambling story. The main protagonist was such a moron. Characters reactions to events did not ring true. It reminded me of the Da Vinci code but maybe not quite as bad as that!

Dan brown?

... just awful. Utter drivel, complete nonsense and it goes on forever. Don't waste your time.

I had enjoyed the beginning of the story until the author started the ancient history bits. It was uninteresting and never seemed to get anywhere, so much so when I realised at chapter55 it was going to continue for 15 more chapters, I had to give up. I think the story could have been edited to cut the ancient history parts right down.
