Summary

WINNER OF THE YA BOOK PRIZE 2021

LONGLISTED FOR THE POLARI CHILDREN’S & YA BOOK PRIZE 2022

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The fourth novel from the phenomenally talented Alice Oseman, author of Solitaire and the graphic novel series Heartstopper – now a major Netflix series.

It was all sinking in. I’d never had a crush on anyone. No boys, no girls, not a single person I had ever met. What did that mean?

Georgia has never been in love, never kissed anyone, never even had a crush – but as a fanfic-obsessed romantic she’s sure she’ll find her person one day.

As she starts university with her best friends, Pip and Jason, in a whole new town far from home, Georgia’s ready to find romance, and with her outgoing roommate on her side and a place in the Shakespeare Society, her ‘teenage dream’ is in sight.

But when her romance plan wreaks havoc amongst her friends, Georgia ends up in her own comedy of errors, and she starts to question why love seems so easy for other people but not for her. With new terms thrown at her – asexual, aromantic – Georgia is more uncertain about her feelings than ever.

Is she destined to remain loveless? Or has she been looking for the wrong thing all along?

This wise, warm and witty story of identity and self-acceptance sees Alice Oseman on towering form as Georgia and her friends discover that true love isn’t limited to romance.

Ode to friendship

“She's happy with who she is. Maybe it's not the heteronormative dream that she grew up wishing for, but... knowing who you are and loving yourself is so much better than that, I think.”

That was my first book with aro/ace characters and I do appreciate Alice's emphatic and in-depth portrayal. That was also my first novel by Alice Oseman and it was as enjoyable to read as her graphic novels.

Simply Incredible

You can feel the authors passion behind every word, I never thought I would relate to a book that discusses Queer topics but after listening to this i ironically have never related more! Its helped discover a new part of me I didn't think was there. Alice truly is an inspiration to young people and everyone should take time to read/listen to at least one of her books. Maybe solitaire since it was a tad funnier (:

Life changing, must read for aros and aces

(this review has some general thematic spoilers, but if you're aro/ace you probably have already felt these things). So, I have known I'm ace, and been out for ~7 years now, and have never seen a piece of media that captures my experience so well. The feeling broken, the confusion, the social conditioning, well meaning people trying to convince you otherwise, not knowing its real, having to define your orientation in your coming out, greiving life experiences you won't have, not always being fully accepted in queer or cishet spaces, the deep appreciation of platonic love and so much more... This book has made me feel seen in a way no other media ever has. I feel like Alice Oseman entered my brain when she wrote about Georgia coming to terms with her sexuality- I must be bi because I don't like anyone is an exact thought I had, as is the 'maybe I'm a repressed lesbian'. Wow this book is amazing, everyone who is aro/ace should read it, as should those who love aroace folks

Brilliant and much needed!

With very few coming of age stories around asexuality, this is a must read for anyone in the LGBTQIA community or folks questioning their sexuality. Lively, witty and really well-developed characters, I enjoyed this the most of all of this author's novels thus far!
