I really loved listening to the book. For me to listen it - it made me feel like I was there with the characters. I did read the book but now I can read the book and listen to the audio at the same time. This audio book is absolutely amazing and brilliant - I really have enjoyed listening to the book.

I loved Jacqueline Wilson as a child and have recently been listening to the audiobooks as a bit of nostalgia. I've never read this one before. I think it's commendable that JW challenged such a difficult topic taking into account the way a young person might actually feel i.e. she believes it's a romance rather than abuse because at that age you think you know everything, and are mature even though you really aren't. However, be prepared to feel physically sick at times, I certainly did. I'm not really sure how I feel about this. I think it's good it exists from an educational standpoint but perhaps it needs something explicit at the front or in the blurb explaining that the story is about abuse. Both so that people with trauma can avoid it, but also so that young people reading/listening to it understand that whilst it is the protagonist's perspective that there's nothing wrong with the relationship she is mistaken and when she is older she will likely realise that she is a victim. Otherwise I fear it might make young people reading it feel that pursuing a relationship with an adult is a good thing in some way. This is similar to the Whitney storyline in Eastenders, she believed she was in love with her step-dad, but in fact he was abusing her. I think it's good to be honest about the topic, that victims don't always feel like victims at the time as it helps people to understand the victims position. But I do think as this is a book for young people it needs to be more explicitly stated that something feeling 'right' doesn't mean it is.

I purchased Love Lessons because it was a book I was curious about- it had been banned in my school which made it all the more fascinating. I now understand why it was banned.

The plot itself could not be written today, let alone to teenagers. Emotional abuse, overt disabilism and underage smoking is the tip of the iceberg, the main plot is Prue falling in love with a teacher, who seems to reciprocate her feelings. Then it has the worst-case scenario ending- they get caught hugging by Sarah who blurts it out in class, Prue is then expelled, the teacher gets off scot-free and Prue is still in love with him.

Still. It is fabulously read. If you're looking for a story to read your children, I'd aim for another Jacquline Wilson book like Hetty Feather or Floss, if you've read it before and want it in audio form, this is great.

I really liked this audio book, its easy to listen to and the narrator was great at making the characters believable. I'd definitely say the story on the otherhand, is for older teenagers. It has a lot of adult themes including a child in love with an adult teacher. It is written from the teenager's perspective so some of these themes aren't addressed as negatively as an adult would see them, but it's a thoroughly captivating story and brings up a lot of questions about first loves.

Hello, actual real life 14 year old here. The writing is good, as always from Jacqueline but I didn’t feel any sort of rooting for the main character. Prue is annoying, rude and judgemental. The plot is unrealistic- innocent, ugly girl pulling the hottest boy and the hottest teacher?? Nah.

I can understand a story written of a sheltered girl falling in love with her art teacher, but the fact that it was written like a forbidden love story was a little disturbing especially seeing as the main protagonist is 14! and the teacher is in his late twenties. feel like the story could've taken a different turn educating young teenagers of the importance of not falling into situations like this and even worse the story blamed the protagonist for the relationship between her and the teacher which really upset me because she is FOURTEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
