Summary

The world never granted me much. No warm and cozy home to rest my head, no loving parents to cheer at my games or remember my birthday, and certainly no finer things in life. Just a damn good arm to throw a football and a hunger inside of me that I hoped would lead me straight to the NFL.

I was 12-years-old when the universe finally delivered its first gift. A beautiful angel, though my angel certainly wore no halo. She dressed in the same tattered clothes that I did, and her eyes were as lost and broken as mine were.

All it took was one look at her face, and I knew she had been made for me and me alone. From that day forward, my soul was hooked, taken, a slave to hers. Nothing could come between us. I was headed to college and then pro ball, and she would be by my side, where she belonged.

Until one day, she disappeared without a word.

The love of my life, my best friend, was suddenly gone, vanished, evaporated into thin air. Almost as if she were never even here.

Now, over a year later, at Brooks College in Georgia, she’s back. I want vengeance for her leaving me so callously. But one look into her stormy-blue eyes, and I’m enamored yet again.

But she’s keeping secrets. Pushing me away so that they remain buried in the past. She’s forgetting one thing though—when it comes to her, I’ll stop at nothing.

She can’t keep me at arm’s length forever. After all, she is mine.

This is a complete stand-alone in the Brooks University series.

Excellent Story & Narration🎧 Riveting & Heartfelt

This is not your typical second chance sports romance, it is so much more. The story drew me in right from the start, grabbing my attention and captivating it the entire book. It is my first book written by Hannah Gray and she is definitely on my radar now, she is a gifted author with a wonderful writing style. The characters and storylines she created are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they are easy to care about too. I loved depth and all the layers of the story, the world building and character growth is fantastic too. Ally and Cole met when they were 12 years old and they became each other’s rock while in foster care. Neither had the best childhoods, but they had each other, until they didn’t. They placed Cole with a family who were going to adopt him and he did not want to leave Ally behind, but she disappeared on him, left without a word, which broke his heart. She knew Cole stood a chance of making it big in football and she would not be the reason he did not pursue that career. She struggled after she left foster care but she got back on her feet and into college, not expecting it to be the same college that Cole is attending. Cole still has anger issues, and he is still mad at her for leaving him, but deep in his soul, he still loves her. But Ally has secrets, and she is not sure if telling Cole is the right thing to do, afraid of his reaction once he learns why she left. I loved how everything played out in this wonderfully plotted story, there is plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions and once in a lifetime romance. Hannah Gray, thank you for this great story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Hannah Gray cast the perfect narrators to bring her characters and story to life. Maxine Mitchell and John Lane are wonderfully talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that suited that character’s persona, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. Mitchell grasped every side of Ally’s personality, from her strong and determined side to her most vulnerable moments. John Lane nailed it as Cole, gruff and hot headed and not afraid to show his caring side with Ally. They set the perfect tone for the story, they captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance and had you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another wonderful listen.
