In finally accepting my deafness when I had my hearing aids fitted in 2024, I had kidded myself in to thinking that I’d taken the whole experience in my stride with minimal fuss. However, I was wrong. Sam takes the listener on a journey through the practicalities and acceptance of deafness, things which have helped her cope, and many many delightfully funny stories along the way. I just automatically assumed, because so many people say that deafness is such an individual experience that I wouldn’t find parallels in the lives of other deaf people.

In a world where I have been slightly worried about letting my deafness define me, along comes this book to pick me up, dust me off, and send me out into this new world where I can hear crockery touching other crockery. And although it makes me want to gouge the remainder of my hearing out with a rusty spork, I feel like this book has helped prepare me for my life with hearing aids, and set my expectations of deafness at the best level for me to now move forward.

Thank you so much Sam; this book is a triumph in every way.

Exactly what I needed!

A really wonderful book!

This book was really informative and has helped me embrace my own deaf identity, after years of feeling that I’m not hearing enough for one world or deaf enough for another.

I feel like everyone who knows or works with deaf people should have read it as a ‘this is what it’s like’ guide, as many professionals don’t seem to ‘get it’.

Also I think this might be one of the first deaf friendly audiobooks as Samantha’s delivery was exceptional. clear and had fluency but a little bit slower to allow for processing time.

Thank you!

Delightful, splendid, and informative!!

This book is one of the best book I have read, it contains everything you need on the subject of deafness. as someonet worried about the possibility of having to have hearing aids in the future. I looked hard to find books that gave me a lot of information. this is definitely the best book that I have found. it contains everything that you could really need to inform you on deafness. it's well written and brilliantly narrated. thank you to the author for a brilliant book, well presented and informative. if you're having problems with your hearing then this is a must read and you won't regret getting it.
