Great story and great reader
It was a great story. The reader was very good at enacting the characters. Listening to this book was a great pleasure.

Interesting listen
A good story with strong characters. Extremely well read by the actor, with each individual clearly identifiable.

Rich with history and setting the scene for 2+3
it's true this is a slightly "longer" book to his previous Greek books but it is all setting the scene and providing important background to new characters and the complex relationships across Greece.

Another brilliant story
Cannot recommend Conn Iggulden enough to anyone interested in ancient history. The reader was okay but some of the voices didn’t match the imagined characters

Good, but not the author’s best.
3.5* but Audible still doesn’t allow 0.5 star ratings for some reason and, although worth your time, not a 4* production that the author is capable of.
Athens’ creates the Hellenic League, as tensions mount with Sparta, the Athenian Navy takes on Xerxes Persian army for the third and last time.
I’m a fan of this author, his historical novels are often very good to superior. This one is good, the author does a reasonable job with his characterisations but somehow fails to reach its potential for bringing in a dynamic, vibrant, living history. It fails to live up to the Iggulden’s best work.

Lord Percy
I have enjoyed many Conn Iggulden’s audiobooks so was looking forward to another. Unfortunately, this one was spoiled by Tim McInnerny using Lord Percy’s, from Blackadder, inflection for the voice of Pericles. This, for me, resulted in the character coming across as an immature boy. Carried on to the end as the subject was interesting.

interesting story
Good historical story with the necessary facts.
I can just imagine how life was on those boats and the disembarking to match into battle.
