Summary
Falling for my childhood sweetheart wasn’t part of the plan.
Moving back to Heather Bay wasn’t on Oliver’s agenda for the summer, but after inheriting a cottage in dire need of renovation, he doesn’t have much choice. Supervising the builders should be easy…except the man in charge is Oliver’s childhood best friend and ex-boyfriend.
Lane’s spent nine years desperately trying to forget his first love, but that doesn’t stop him from fantasizing about Oliver in every spare moment once he discovers Oliver’s back in town. Falling into bed together isn’t supposed to mean anything, even if Lane’s emotions feel too big to be ignored.
Being drawn to each other is one thing, but being stuck together after disaster strikes the renovations is another. The pull of the past is strong, but Oliver and Lane have been down this road before. This time they’ll need to learn from their mistakes so they can finally keep their promises.
Like I Promised is a steamy second-chance contemporary MM romance featuring former childhood sweethearts, interfering friends, questionable barbecues, a very lazy Collie, cozy coffee shops, and secret beaches.

What a great start to this seaside new series!
I love the setting, in a fictional small town on the coast of Yorkshire. And the trope is the one I love most, second chances. Oliver and Lane have been best friends for all their lives, and each other’s first everything. Then they split at 18 when Oliver was about to go to uno. Fear, teenage impulsiveness and let’s face it, sheer idiocy lead them to push each other away and in the intervening years they have built up their fight and breakup su much they think they hate each other and never want to see the other again. Except, when they finally meet again all the good that was between them comes back. The opportunity of a second chance is there but there are so many things to take into consideration, not last the fear of having their hearts broken again.
A lovely story, well written and with a great setting, and a group of friends I can’t wait to find out more about!

Loved this
I’m a suckers for second chance romances and this certainly hits the spot. It is sweet, spicy and has some great humour. Lane and Oliver are so very clearly not over one another. After 9 years apart they have to face each other as Lane is working on Oliver’s recently inherited cottage. You can see how they have grown as people in their time apart as they both own up to their part in their breakup. I loved them and loved seeing them getting close and rekindling their love.
As always Dan brought Lane and Oliver to life perfectly

Sweet and steamy
A charming second chance at your first love. A bit of kismet and motherly meddling and an epic romance is rekindled after 9 years and it's just so sweet!! I found this one softer and gentler than Charlie's usual wit and charisma but still a wonderful read, a fabulous cast of characters and so much intrigue for all the future stories in this series!

falling for me ex wasn't part of the plan
honestly this was sweet. everything you'd expect from the author. a small town, one bed, and a weird idea that a 'summer fling' would work and that isn't adding their past. It's just a sweet and simple romance with a great narrator

Great new series with low angst romance
I love a small town romance and especially with it being set in England! Oliver is back in Heather Bay after nine years away and he didn't leave under the best of circumstances, having broken up with his best friend and boyfriend, Lane , and heading off to university. Lane stayed and now works for the family business but both men are surprised when Oliver opens to door to the cottage he's inherited from his Nan and finds Lane there ready to work.
You can instantly feel the connection between the two men and the history that they share that runs deep, having been friends since first school. I really liked that this was a low angst romance and the setting for it is a beautiful seaside town. Lane has several friends in town, some who know their history and some who don't but all are welcoming to Oliver. It's good that they are able to look at their past relationship and see in through the eyes of age and experience, and move forward with what they both want.
A great story with a lot of interesting and entertaining characters. I can't wait to see who comes up next with their own story.
Dan Calley provides wonderful narration for the story, conveying the emotion and nostalgia that both men go through when they reconnect. He's one of my favourite British narrators.

Wonderful story and performance.
I loved the world building in Heather Bay and can't wait to come back and learn more about lots of the other characters who live there. In this one, we get a second chance romance as Oliver inherits a run down property and returns to see it restored only to be thrown together with his ex- in charge of the renovations. Oliver may have left and seemingly moved on, but Lane's feelings have never really changed. He's willing to take the risk of enjoying whatever Oliver will give him for as long as he's back knowing full well the pain that awaits when Oliver leaves again. A sudden, unexpected event throws them together in a way where they can no longer dance around how they honestly feel about each other and what they want for the future. A lovely story about growth and emotional honesty. Dan Calley's performance is spot on. We feel the warmth and love between Oliver and Lane but also the pain of their impending loss at their future separation again. The place where they finally open up and put all their cards on the table was wonderful to read but is taken to a while new level hearing it actually voiced by Dan Calley.
