About this listen

Who wanted her dead?

Having rescued Cassidy McKnight from kidnappers in South America, Gabe Sinclair thought his job was done. Not that the former Navy SEAL could ever forget the brave, beautiful single mother. But when the danger followed her home, Gabe promised to protect her. Why anyone would want to kill Cassidy was a mystery. Was the motive related to the orphaned toddler Cassidy was raising, a sweet little girl who brought out the father figure in maverick Gabe? Or did a newly revealed family secret have killer consequences?

I found Lethal Deception disappointing on several fronts. There was a noticeable lack of authentic emotional connection between the adoptive mother and child, which made it hard to invest in their relationship. More troubling, however, was the book’s attempt to convey Christian values using what appears to be a legendary—not biblical—story about Solomon disguising himself as a shepherd to win a woman’s affection.

This narrative isn’t found in scripture and seems more metaphorical or derived from folklore. It’s especially puzzling to use Solomon as a model for a healthy relationship when the Bible explicitly highlights the spiritual downfall linked to his romantic choices:

1 Kings 11:3 (NIV)
“He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray.”

Using Solomon in this context undermines the message of faith-based wisdom and strong moral character. Overall, the story missed the mark both emotionally and theologically.
