About this listen

Leonard and Hungry Paul is the story of two friends who ordinarily would remain uncelebrated. It finds a value and specialness in them that is not immediately apparent and prompts the idea that maybe we could learn from the people that we overlook in life.

Leonard and Hungry Paul change the world differently to the rest of us: we try to change it by effort and force; they change it by discovering the small things they can do well and offering them to others.

An enjoyable story about friendship, family and being a little off centre. A worthwhile listen, with some imaginative observations.

A little gem of a book

Beautifully written and narrated. A quiet celebration of gentle people. For the few hours of the story I felt as if I was on retreat. If it was a piece of music I would go back to the beginning to listen again.

A gentle hug for the soul

Absolutely loved this story, the author has a brilliant turn of phrase and the reader captures the characters perfectly. One of those books that I think may well be even better on audio than in print because it has been so skilfully read. The story itself is charming and a wonderful distraction. If you like The Rosie Project you would love this.

I’ve never finished listening to a book on here before that made me press play again as soon as I’d finished it. A beautiful quiet story

I loved this life affirming novel, which tells the intertwining stories of two men whose gentleness shows lives lived outside of the competitive, grasping culture of the world. With humility and kindness, Leonard and Hungry Paul negotiate loneliness, friendship, love and loss, with wit, mutual encouragement and, ultimately, hope. Some may recognise introvert or autistic traits. A novel with a wise, quiet beauty.

Beautifully narrated

So glad I listened to this. Nothing huge or dramatic happened. Just a little window into quietly unusual lives.
