Summary
A Great War is coming, and it will engulf the Imperium of Man. The Space Marines of the Alpha Legion, the last and most secretive of all the Astartes brotherhoods, arrive on a heathen world to support the Imperial Army in a pacification campaign against strange and uncanny forces. But what drives the Alpha Legion? Can they be trusted, and what side will they choose when the Great War begins? Loyalties are put to the test, and the cunning schemes of an alien intelligence revealed, as the fate of mankind hangs in the balance.

A thriller in the Dark Millennium.
When I first read this book a couple of years ago it was my first dive into Warhammer. And and as I went on with with other books I held them up to the standard of this Legion.
I love legion. It has grim action and a story that twists and turns. Characters that are memorable and relatable.
It's pacing is a little different from most other HH novels, then again this book is about spies and conspiracies.
Take a listen. It's well worth the money.

Enjoyed
Having not enjoyed this narrators previous efforts in Fulgrim, I was really surprised to find I thoroughly enjoyed his prortrayal of the characters this time around, especially the men from the joker and clown regiments!
I did find the first hour or so a struggle though and took me a while to work out which character was which (but this could well have been my frame of mind at the time!), but in the end I thought it was a really good story, very well done, taking a side approach at the heresy and keeping you guessing all the way!

Best in Horus series yet
I found this the most enjoyable if the Horus series yet. Great ideas and characters. Some criticized the narration, but I thought it was very good. Plenty of characterisation to help distinguish who's speaking.

Interesting story about the most secretive of legions. Amazing narrator with a wide range of voices, capturing the essence of each character.

Multi-layered and quite brilliant.
Great introduction to the XX legion.
Fabulously read by David Timson too - others have described his delivery as whimsical, but I thought he was very, very good.
I hope that's not all we get...

Well written and well read
Dan Abnett is brilliant as usual. Worth listening just for the character names! I fell in love with all of them. Brilliant.

First book I've heard/read on the Alpha Legion
The Alpha Legion never really interested me until now, but now that I know a bit more about their contribution to the grand scheme of things, I'm keen to read more about their story.
You know there's bound to be a big twist in the end of course, due to the legion's renowned embrace and employment of secrecy. Worth waiting for in my opinion.
David Timson does a great job narrating this one. I wasn't too sure about his style to begin with when I listed to Fulgrim for the first time recently. Came to the conclusion that he did a pretty decent job in the end and he improves upon that even more in Legion.
Consistently solid writing by Dan Abnett.

The Alpha Legion may now be my favourite legion
Another divergence from the main events of the Horus Heresy, however quite relevant! For me this book is great for seeing what the Imperial Army has to deal with and in comparison just how deadly the Astartes really are.
This book more about subterfuge than all out war, there is battles but that's not the focus. It does have some of the most memorable characters I think so far, I hope I may hear from them in further books.
