Aquesta estructura formal, que es correspon, com veurem, amb el contingut argumental, es trencada sovint amb la inclusió d'altres esquemes mètrics. Un jove mariner genovès anomenat Crostòfor Colom, únic supervivent d'un naufragi, arriba a la costa atlàntica d'Andalusia.
