About this listen

Rezkin's army has been defeated, and he is among the dead.

Rising in the shadows, Rezkin is free from the shackles of power. But the darkness is his home, and there he stalks his foes. His friends, alone and scattered, face the war with an empty throne.

Rumors of Rezkin's survival spawn hope and discord on the Souelian. Unable to put Rezkin to rest, Azeria chases answers. In the criminal underworld, she hunts the Raven, willing to extract the truth in blood.

In Lon Lerésh, Yserria and Malcius become entangled in a deadly game. Rezkin's absence has left the queen vulnerable, and the nobles vie for dominance. Beneath their intrigue and machinations, a sinister plot unfolds while an ancient magic hangs in the balance.

With his fledgling empire on the brink of collapse and Caydean reigning unchecked, Rezkin must be more than an emperor. He must become the Shadow Knight.

a lot happened in short time. The characters developed en evolved. It was very satisfying to hear. And the cliffhanger....cannot wait for the next book. I loved it.

exciting developments

Can’t wait for book 7. And I hope the story continues all the way to book 10

Nick’s performance and the progression of the story.

My favourite fantasy series by a mile, Nick & Kel are a great combination so I wait the extra months for the audible books.

Off all the books in the series this one feels the most enjoyable.

really satisfying

Go read it, if you’re in this deep you’ll enjoy it!

Satisfying relationship development scenes that have been built up over multiple books, and escalation in the nature of the combat scenes, but felt like the book was over just as it really got going.

Simultaneously felt like the last book of a series with how it delivered on those ‘aww they finally said it to one another!’ moments, and also book 5.5 where we get to hear about a bunch of side story developments only it’s the protagonist spying rather than perspective switching interludes.

Remained highly enjoyable despite lacking some of the character & depth of the previous books; hopefully that was just the inevitable need for change to facilitate character growth or simply necessitated by the stories structure.

Either way I’m sure it will make more sense with the next book in-hand, which I eagerly anticipate!

Book 5.5 or 6? Good either way

KDT is and will always be my favourite series so to see the story progress and knit together filled me with such joy

Engrossing and thrilling as always

Complex characters that each belong as part of the story but as separate characters they each develop and evoke to keep you interested and wanting to know what happens next

Loved it!

I love this series mainly through the characters coming together and the adventures they went through. Breaking the team into separate stories made me a little nervous and my fears realised in this book. It dragged, some of the plot went nowhere and you were left hanging on others to the point I skipped through the book. Hopefully book 7 will bring the lines together, but I really hope it comes out more quickly.

Challenging to get through

Yet another brilliant narration from Nick but a master class continuation from Kel Kade. I do look forward to the next release so I can immerse myself in the the land I can not reach lol at least by body that is. Love it Nicks voice I could listen to forever, simply the best narrator I've ever heard with the vast amount of different character voices...truly magical. If anyone is looking for an epic fantasy journey this collection is a must, spend those credits you won't be disappointed.

Quality Fantasy at its best

Character development is fine, diverging storylines are fine. But this book dragged, felt kind of like a filler, and made me question the author at some parts.

Little interactions between the cast, lots of weird subplots and threads. Next book will make it make sense, I guess?

Also, when did Rez become such a emotional man? Did his training and conditioning suddenly vanish?

I enjoyed it, even if it dragged a bit, but it didn't come to par with the rest of the books.

Rezkin the invisible, and emotional?
