About this listen
Returning to Madison hurts. I thought I'd left my past behind, but the past goes on living. I carry it inside of me, it's a piece of me. People have marked me in indelible ways, and I drag the shreds of my soul behind me, trying to put my pieces back together. I'm not the Amber I used to be. I fly under the radar, try to be invisible.
It doesn't always work. Drawing attention scares me. It always spells trouble. Returning to my hometown is a last-ditch effort to lay my demons to rest and start anew, for good this time.
Meeting Jesse Lee wasn't in the plan. Yet here he is with his heart-stopping, sexy grin, handsome like a god, shining bright. He's full of life, full of heat, packing the energy of a thousand suns in his gaze and muscular body. Jesse burns, and the pain of being near him is sweet.
But he's foiling my plans. It's hard to remain a ghost when he's around. Hard to avoid his attention, to remain invisible. He sees me, really sees me, and behind his bright radiance, I can see shadows from his own past crowding in. He's swimming hard to stay afloat even as he reaches for me.
What is he afraid of? And how can he save me from drowning when he can't even save himself?
Stand-alone novel. No cliff-hanger.
Warning: This book contains graphic language, sex, and violence. Mature listeners only. Not intended for young listeners.

It took me a little time to get into it, but it got more enjoyable. Not sure if it’s listed as ‘Young Adult’ as I would probably categorise it as that. Although the explicit sex scenes are maybe aimed at older audiences???
The characters are mostly late teens/early twenties, so I did feel a bit too old reading it being over 40 😊 is that weird??? But hey, I can still appreciate a hot guy and hot sex scenes at my age.
It was an interesting standalone and characters are interlinked between the other books in the series, so you can continue the story if it’s something you enjoyed.
My only slight criticism, and it was really slight and a personal thing, is I found the woman narrator’s voice a bit whiny and annoying to begin with and at times throughout the story. When she did a different accent to voice another character it sounded a bit like the exorcist 😂 I did have a WTF moment and went back to listen again, as I thought maybe satan had infiltrated my Audible 😂
She is not alone on the weird accents done by narrators. My advice, don’t do them if they aren’t good. Sorry, but it does sometimes spoil it for the listeners and I’ve even had to not finish a book because of the dire accents. Judging by other peoples reviews, I am not alone on this.
It’s not terrible but not on my best listens list.

I love Abby Craden’s narration normally, but didn’t really like her character. I found the male voice sleazy sounding.
I’m sure it’ll be right up someone else’s street, but just not for me! I finished it though so it couldn’t have been too bad.
Not very cheery
